i have been looking at these for a while.
just a few questions.
how bad do they kick?
how expensive is it to feed?
does anyone know of a semiauto that is bigger?
how well do the barrels swap out on them.  i would like the .50 but plan to get a .44mag barrel.

i know they are big but they fit my hand.  i guess it's my next itch.  it will be a wow gun.  no doubt.  to be honest i bet i can wear it under a big jacket or at least take it to a CHL class and use it as the gun i will use for the shooting portion of the test.

well. My friend has one, in the gold finish in 50 AE.  cost him $1600.  I like my $400 stainless Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 magnum better.

But he loves it, loves owning it, and that is what matters above all else is being happy with what you got.

Kick is heavy, not a ripid shooter but not to hard to get used to.

Expencive to feed at about a buck a round.

I can get a 50 round box of 44 mag for $20 at wal mart.

IMHO, a 44 mag or for more kick and noise a 454 revolver is a better gun for the money.

But right now not many have the glamor of the DE. And if you like it, go for it.

The recoil is milder than most .44's IMO, it's the heavy weight and gas system that suck it up.  .50AE can be over a buck a round.  .50 is the biggest though I am trying to recall if one of the Wildey cartidges are more powerfull?  Barrel swap is not hard, I have the .357, .44, and .50 uppers for mine.  You will have to have separate magazines for each caliber, and if you go with .357 as well, it requires a different bolt as well as the barrel.

Enjoy, it's not practical but always a fun gun* and conversation piece.  When I got my CHL, my instructor had already had 3 people qualify with the DE 50 but back then, the license was dependent on caliber qualified with. Now no license at all is required, ALASKA ROCKS!

* that is if the brass doesn't fly straight back and peg you in the face and you don't mind spending that much on ammo and don't reload.

Quick edit to add:  it's the biggest caliber.  I think the Linda pistol may be larger, and two other big semiautos are the Wildey and the Grizzly...

I love my DE .50AE...It kicks hard but my Taurus .44MAG Raging Bull kicks a little harder...It is anywhere from $20-$30 for 20 rounds of .50AE...can be expensive to shoot but it is a novelty gun or large game hunter...hell of a lot of fun to shoot...

... I have one, it's fun but no real, practical mission. Hence the finish I applied.
I roll my own on an RCBS single stage rockcrusher as dies weren't available for my Dillon at the time of purchase. It is fun to load it with Hogdon's H110; makes a huge fireball. It's true a true Israeli Military Industries. Kicks hard but not as hard as my S&W .500 magnum.

... Chicks dig it
