You need a good "no bounce", braced setup to reliably move the sight.

Take the slide off, lay it flat on a padded bench so you won't scratch the finish.

Have someone help you hold it steady so it won't move.

Use a very sharp pencil to make a small mark on the slide and the sight to serve as a "witness mark" so you can judge how much the sight moves.

Use a brass or nylon drift and a light hammer to nudge the sight over.

Just hold the drift FIRMLY on the lower part of the sight base, and tap gently with the hammer.

Check the marks to see how much the sight has moved.
Go slow and don't move the sight much.  A little movement translates into a lot of actual movement of the shot group.

If you're shooting LEFT, you want to move the rear sight slightly to the RIGHT.

Some filing on the rear sight to bring the group down, once you have the windage dialed in, a little at a time, then reblue the top of the blade.
