Any opinions on ghost ring sites? Something like this, but with a finer front site post.

Snake Eyes sights by Dead Ringer

More snake eyes

Initial reaction is that I don't see the value of having them, especially considering the added size. Ghost rings are all about fooling your brain into automatically aligning the sights, but I feel like that only really works if the rear aperture is near your eye. I could be wrong; I'd have to try them I guess.

You're not wrong.  In addition to your points I never liked the way they obscure the target on a pistol.

No personal experience with them but I shot a match with a guy that had installed them on his pistol. Normally this guy was a solid shooter, fighting with those sights made him look like a raw beginner. Even on 3 yard head shots he was glacial. As I said he was normally a solid and decently quick and proficient shooter. The sight change really hurt him.

over the years, I've tried just about every pistol open sight combination as they hit the arena...for USPSA they were way too slow.. the ghost ring concept is to provide a " out of focus ghost" image when the eye is near the sight itself (not a peep) in front of the eye box on a long gun, and I've had good luck with a set on an old 1100 for slug matches...
