alright so i went with my dad to buy a pistol the other day, an i talked him into a glock over one of the XD pistols ive been reading about both but he is very very unpleased with the accuracy he can barely hit a clay pigeon at about 25 feet to me thats pretty good, he had tritium night sights put on and he thinks thats what messed him up, the pistol seems to be shooting low but i tell him his sight picture is wrong and it causes him to shoot low i can take the pistol an get a rythm an hit 3 or 4 clays in a row at about 15 yards or so so this is my first experience with pistols also, what kind of groups should we expect from this pistol at what kind of ranges i tell him pistols are for close quarters and not past 20-30 yards made to hit human sized targets and not beer cans |

It's probably more of a "training" issue than anything. They are incredibly accurate, but it takes some "fighting" with that trigger setup to ring out that accuracy. When I was tossing down 500 rounds a week out of my G19 after several months I was able to get great accuracy at 75 feet and even 150 feet. But once I stop practicing like that I don't get those results. I think they're great guns, but I find I have to fight them a bit to get the accuracy I can get much more easily out of my 1911s, BHP, or Beretta. And since you're talking about him shooting low, I'll bet anything that he's jerking the trigger a bit. He's in good company though -- have him spend more time behind the gun with live ammo as well as lots of dry fire practice. He'll get there. |
| I avg. 10shots groups the size of a softball at 25yds offhand. This is with a G19 and G20. My best was actually last week. I put 9rds into the size of a Copenhagen can at 31 measured yards offhand with my G20. I stopped cause i was afraid id sling the 10th one. Past the 30yd mark i get a lot worse. The front sight is just to big for me to hold steady on a small target. |

I prefer the XD to the Glock but I'll ignore that part of your post... Anyway, I've seen Glocks (pretty much all models including a 37) get hits on 9"x14" steel at 100 yards. Yep, 100 yards. No BS. If you're not hitting clay pigeons at 25 yards, you've either got a problem with the sights or the shooter. |

If he hasn't fired pistols in a while, or, even if he has, I'd wager that his flinch instinct is pretty powerful. Try this.... Have him face downrange, and you either load or don't load the pistol. Holster it for him without him knowing if it's loaded or not. Stand to his left and watch the delivery of the round. If he dips, you know he's flinching. If it isn't flinching, it could actually be the sights. Have a competent marksman or woman shoot the pistol to see where it's printing. Whoever installed the sights may have put the wrong rear sight in (there are a couple'a different ones for the .40, IIRC). Good luck and tell him not to be dissapointed. I bet the gun shoots just fine once he's gotten used to it. FWIW, with my 17 I can hit an IPSC A zone at 50 yards all day. A 12" plate at 100 yards is a challenge, but 7 or 8 out of 10 is my norm. Glocks are very accurate pistols for what you pay for them. |

A GLOCK is a machine. Your father is the variable. The sort accuracy you should expect depends on your father's ability to shoot. Having a fast car doesn't make someone a race car driver. Start him at 5-7 yards. When he can group an entire magazine in the center, move him out to 15 and so on. J |
It's you !!! this is NOT me but LOOK !!! I think you WILL SHIT A BRICK !!! http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=566208 |

Glocks are more accurate than the people who shoot them. You should be able to hit a human sized target at 100 yards. Watch the video. www.xssights.com/assets/XS_Sights_Demo_LoRes-1.wmv |
Not really. I have them on 2 of my 3 Glocks. I can barely tell the difference. In reality a 3.5# connector doesn't drop the trigger pull down to 3.5#'s, it drops it about 1# total, from about 5.25#'s to 4.25#'s. Still a good thing to get, but it doesn't make a BIG difference. |
