newer glocks seem to come with a new black finish. does anyone know the name of this finish and can it be applied to older glocks cost?

I think the finish is called TENIFER. I may be wrong though, I would contact GLOCK through e-mail to varify this, and also to find out if it can be reapplied or applied to other firearms. According to GLOCK the finish is supposed to be stronger and more rust resistant than stainless steel. Whether or not that is true I still LOVE my GLOCK 22. Best money I have ever spent.

Tenifer is clear and at the surface of the metal it doesn't wear unless you remove metal.  Glock slides can have the newer slick style black Teflon like finish applied at Glock Inc in Smyrna GA (I think they charge about $60 for slide and $20 or so for barrels).  The older finish is a matte phosphate and it does wear off.  I've had my G21 slide hard chromed.  My G26 has the old finish and my G36 has the slick black finish.

My Glock 31 has the Tenifer finish. It has been subjected to all sorts of field conditions. I've been carrying that gun (on duty) since they came out. I can't count how many times it's been in and out of the holster. The finish is holding up fine. The only thing showing finish wear is the slide lock, which isn't finished in Tenifer anyway.

As far as the Teflon, I didn't know that Glock was offering that. I had my Kimber Pro Carry teflon coated, but was advised that it would still wear, particularly holster wear, like any other gun, just not as fast.

IMHO, I think either one is a winner.
