today at the range my friend shot a 9mm. out of my glock 23. the round fired but failed to extract. after a hard tug on the slide the casing ejected. there wasn't any visible damage to be seen, only unburned powder in the barrel. what should be my next step in making sure the chamber and barrel are safe? the case did not rupture, only swelled to the size of the .40 chamber. this is what i get for having glock 19s and 23s on the same table.

RELAX DOA!

some folks seem to be sitting on the 'troll' button around here just waiting to use it.

Both my wife and I work in the medical field and she often laments about how ignorant folks are about basic medical issues...at least what SHE sees as basic.
I keep reminding her that her knowledge and experience is probably WAY beyond half the population if not more.

Same thing here.

So many of you guys JUMP on people who post what YOU think are silly, stupid, ignorant, etc. questions.

Just because you think you know so much, doesn't mean it is common knowledge among other gunowners.

Now,
after all that, I cannot answer the original question because I'm not savvy about that particular issue.
But I still thought it was a valid question when I read it.

Clean gun, shoot gun.

Don't leave your glocks near each other.  At least if other people will be shooting them.

When you look down the bore do you see any visible damage? If not, clean it real good and shoot it.

+1  Examine the barrel for warping, clean it and shoot it.

If you still need piece of mind and you have spare cash laying around......you can buy a spare Glock 23 barrel, factory new, from R Guns for $ 125.

Just shoot it, Glocks are great guns and it should be just fine.

Take a chill pill DOA, the only dub question is the one not asked.
And even if someone feels dumb after asking it, they only feel dumb for a moment, if they omit the question they remain dumb for eternity.

Saw a .40 fired in a .45 (1911). Once it was knocked out with a rod the weapon continued without fail for the remiander of the class (another 4-500 rounds). Apparently no damage was done. I don't think this kind of thing bulges barrels--if you fire another round into a plugged bore or fire an overpressure round maybe, but there is little pressure buildup when the bullet is 1mm undersized.

About my sig line......was she serious?

I'm ashamed to say that I have done that before, but with HK's.  all was fine.

First beat the shit out of your friend!!!!!

Then just shoot it.  It happens and unless there is a visisble sign of damage your Glock is fine.

i'd explain to my wife that because of what my friend (not me) did, the weapon is now possibly on the verge of catastrophic failure and that it could seriously injure me the very next time it's fired.  i go on to explain the problem could be easily remedied by buying a match grade Barsto barrell

whether or not the 9mm damaged the chamber would always be a mystery to me, but not one that i thought about too much.  i'd just be happy with my Barsto.

*edit*
the barrell is the only thing that could've possibly been damaged to a dangerous extent, replacing it would be an "end all" solution.  probably overkill, but you'll never have this perfect of an excuse again.

I shot a 10mm in a 45 auto once, didn't hurt a thing but made the case swell up to 45 size

netwt12

I'm a Glock armorer. Field strip the pistol and examine the barrel and chamber area, you're looking for bulges or cracks. There shouldn't be any, the case fire formed to the chamber and the bullet basically fell out of the barrel. Having the extra space around it allowed the gasses to vent .Clean it shoot it and don't worry about it. Or you can use the excuse to get a new match barrel. Keep one gun and one caliber of ammo out and one time, and educate your friend.

Please forgive my ignorance, but can you explain your post?  What exactly is "trolling", and why did yo think netwt12 was trolling?  I too thought it was a legit question, and don't see why it would make someone mad.

Anybody posting a thread that has anything to do with Glocks, kabooms and such is often accused of trolling.

ETA: Trolling means looking to start an arguement or controversy.

Ahhhh, thanks Combat_Jack.  I've seen that term so many times, but did not know exactly what it meant.  I figured there was some other meaning, since the original post seemed pretty legit.

Now, if I can just learn some of the other stuff, like IBTL and w00t.

A lot of the collectors of antique firearms on this board get offended if you post anything that has to do with modern firearms.
