Kel-Tec makes very small carry guns.  They also have a great no questions lifetime warranty.

Does your question imply that your dad isn't really a gun guy? If so (and even if he is), I'd say get a revolver. It's the simpliest to learn and use. Look at the S&W 638.

I have a Kahr PM9 and have been happy with it.  Its smaller than some of the .380 and is super high quality.

I have a Kel-Tec P3AT .380. It's my BUG and my everywhere gun. Even if I have a pair of gym shorts on I can easily conceal it.

Depends on how you intend to carry it.  My choice is a S&W J-frame, but a small auto would be slimmer.

I carry a Kel-Tec P-11 as my warm weather gun.

I'm very happy with it.

Yep –– carry mode preference and usual daily dress can make all the difference in the world re: this particular decision.  (Yes, one can tailor/rebuild his entire wardrobe around CCW, but the truth is that VERY few actually do this, especially those who first start carrying later in life.)

I love my CZ-82. It's small but not that small.

That said, it's a 9x18 and no decent defensive loads exist for the caliber (other than the 115gr. LVE loading which isn't imported any more ).

You're missing one.

.357mag snub-nose.
