why there is an open cavity at the bottom of the grip? since it allow debris to enter and reach trigger assembly and firing pin, why doesn't all the glocks come without that cavity? does it have a purpose?

thanks in advance,
Frens

I filled mine with epoxy, then Dremeled the grip to match my 1911 grip angle... that space was mighty useful for me .

Yes, basically the design was to help let gases and powder residue have a place escape when firing. But as stated "Buy a Plug"

I like the fact that if your mag is a little stuck you can get your thumb up in it to get a better hold of the mag but since I use my G19 as my carry gun I use the plug.  When I shoot IDPA I take the plug out.  Without the plug I don't want to even think about how much stuff could get up inside there while carring IWB

Only problem is that turns your Glock into a NFA item(SBR) if you don't have the 16" barrel.

in USA that would turn your glock into a NFA item even if the stock is removable (not pinned)?

Do not buy a plug. The opening is there for a reason. In the event of a "double trouble" malfunction you may need to really get a good grip on the mag and rip it free from the frame. This orifice gives good clearance to the back of the mag for that purpose. I have trained extensively at Oregon Firearms Academy and have experience with staged "DT's" since it is difficult to get a Glock to malfunction.

Hope this helps.

The cavity was neither intended as an "escape" for debris and gases, nor was the Glock designed to accept a shoulder stock.

It's simple economics. Less resin (polymer)=less material cost.
Secondary benefit=weight reduction

If you have a NDF mag load it up to capacity stick the mag in the gun and hold it sideways. Press the mag release button. You will instantly see what the hole is for.

it also fits into the glock design of the perfect fit in order to fit everybody's hand w/ a natural grip w/ the best (felt)recoil-reducing erogonamics
