is this correct?
I want to say no but this is my only example of the 1911 so without anything to compare it to I want to make sure. |

Odds are that the half cock hammer hooks aren't fitted right. ETA: I think the SA Mil-spec is Series 70, so definitely not right. |

Newer Springfield hammers actually have 2 different notches other than full cock. On the first notch, the hammer will indeed fall when the trigger is pressed. On the second notch, it will not. EDIT: Case in point: I bet your hammer clicks 3 times when you cock it manually, doesn't it? How new is your Loaded? I've had 3 new production Springfield's in the last 2 years and they've all had an "extra" notch in there compared to other Series 70 hammers. |

Thanks for the info all...
Bought it used a few years ago and just must have never noticed this. Decided that it needed to be cleaned last night and after putting it back together i function checked it...then the hammer went down from half cock. All other safety/function checks were OK. WIZZO - frame is stamped 2003 but I'm not sure if that's a year or just some sort of control number that looks like a year. The hammer only has 2 positions, half and full. |

Ok, that's one of the slightly older ones then. I can't pin down the exact year they introduced the 3 notch hammer. I have a GI from 2003 and a Loaded from 97-98 and they both have 2 notches as well, but the hammer doesn't fall when the trigger is pulled on the half cock notch. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
