I just got my 1911,  colt combat commander, I can't figure out how to get the bushing off, having a hell of a time, went to youtube and that just pissed me off any ideas for the newbie

Push the plug in and rotate the bushing clockwise until it clears plug.  Release plug slowly so you don't shoot it into your face.  Remove plug and spring.  Rotate bushing counterclockwise back past center and you should be able to pull it straight off.

Ok, I got pissed and it is sitting in my vice with a cloth diaper liner protecting it, basically its in time out,  had a shit ton of flies in my shop and attacked them with compressed air, now my shop is airing out.

Way off topic, but the flies. A Tenn. friend told me to put about a dozen pennies in a baggie half  or 3/8 ths  of water and hang it above your work, food area. Flies think all the little bubbles it creates are some kind of big predator. I tried it at my outside bar, no flies stick around.

If you still can't figure it out, buy a bushing wrench from brownells or similar.  That should make even the most tightly fit bushing easy to rotate.
