MY QUESTION IS WHEN IT COMES TO THE HK AND SIGS WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? I HAVE BEEN READIN UP ON THE HK USP 40 AND THE SIG 229 IN THE 40 BUT THEN I REALIZED THAT I'D BE BETTER COMPARING THE 226 TO THE USP.  I HAVE READ THAT THEY BOTH HAVE 4.4INCH BARRELS BUT I AM CONCERNED THAT SINCE I HAVE BEEN MAINLY AROUND SIGS THAT WORKING THE HK WILL BE AKWARD. WHAT DO YOU THINK.
THEY ARE BOTH AROUND THE SAME WEIGHT AND I THINK THAT THE POLYMER FRAME WILL HOLD UP LONGER BUT THAT IS IN GUN CARE. THEY ARE BOTH INPORTS AND VERY PRICEY. SO FAR I LIKE THE SIGS I OWN BUT I AM LOOKING INTO THE FULL SIZE LINE OF HANDGUNS.

I WAS READING AUTOPISTOLS MAG AND THEY WAS TALKING ABOUT THE 357SIG AND THE 40S/W. THEY MENTIONED THAT THE 40S/W WAS NOT AS GOOD AT OUTER DISTANCES AND NOT AS ACCURATE AS THE 357SIG, IS THERE ANY TRUTH TO THIS?

WHAT DOES MOA STAND FOR IN THE OPTIC WORLD. MAO? SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

THANKS.

Well thats you're first problem right there...

MOA stands for minute of angle.  I'd google minute-of-angle for a thorough explination.  As for sig vs hk, I don't own either so I'm not much help there.

I'd also loose the all caps when typing.

1pistola, you're comparing two fine pistols. Main practical differances between the two are the location of the de-cock/safety lever and the magazine release. The H&K offers a wider variety of carry configurations (cocked and locked carry, or decocker, or DAO, etc.) and the ability mount a right side lever for left handed shooters. I don't think you'll have any luck wearing out a SIG frame, so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

My best reccomendation to you is to go to a range and shoot both. Everyone has what they like (I'm a 1911 fan myself), but just because it works for them doesn't mean it will work best for you.

As for the differance between the .357 SIG and .40 S&W, if there is an intrinsic differance in accuracy you'll never notice it at fighting distances. I think the terminal performance of the two are pretty good, while .40 ammo is more commonly available. Personally I'd go with the .40.

Put simply, MOA refers to the group size @ a certain distance. One minute of angle equals one inch at 100 yards, so MOA = X inches at X hundred yards, X being constant. For instance if my rifle shoots one MOA it will group one inch at 100 yards and three inches at 300 yards. On the other hand if it's only a three MOA rifle it will shoot three inches at 100 yards, six inches at 200 yards, nine inches at 300 yards, etc. There's alot of other factors, but I think you get the general idea. In regards to optics you may see a red-dot scope that has (for example) a 15 MOA dot; so the dot covers 15" at 100 yards.

Hope this helps!

The USP 45f was my first pistol purchase and it's still my favorite.  However, until I decide between the P2000/USPc/USPf 9mm, it remains my only HK.  I got the SIG 220ST a little while later and it's a close call.  I have the SP2009 which was a good deal, but I prefer the classic SIG.  My 226 and 228 9s are tackdrivers and so smooth and easy to shoot.  I'll shoot my 226 357SIG this weekend and get back to ya, but I'm sure it will all be positive.  I haven't shot my 220 either so I'll need to see what it's like compared to the ST (shoots into one hole but isn't the best for carry).
PS if you have mucho dinero, the P7M8 is awesome.....I'll just keep borrowing my brother's for now.

Here's my results:
I looked at the hk and like the 1911 style of carry but did not like the grip, as it seem a little on the wide side in the grip. I liked the 226's grip and everything felt natural. The 226 with rails in .40 went for about $800.00 and the hk in .40 went for about $779.00 or something like that. One other thing that bothered me was the mag release on the hk, it took some getting use to unlike the 226's which is just about the same in the market. I really like the hk's sights and acquisition was great as well as sight picture.  I even my a forum buddy "New AR Guy" at the store I went to. Once I mention this web site , he was like "hey whats your name?"
So what is my choice? well for now it is the 226 but I am looking into some sight options for it, the hk's was just so good for me until I am looking for something similar if not the same.

Look into the XDs.   They have the 1911 grip angle, and an ambi safety.  They also feel better to a lot of folks than the rather squarish HK.
