Are there any manufacturers looking to build a pistol with a light integrated into the frame?  I would envision a modular system like what Surefire makes to avoid obsolescence.  I would also envision controls integrated into the grip like Crimson Trace grips.  Seems like if it was done right, it could be really slick.

i wouldn't doubt that one would pop out, but then you are kinda stuck with factory options. a lot of folks like the modularity that a rail gives a handgun, just like it does an AR. you can choose the light/laser to meet your requirements rather than being stuck with the one the factor decided upon. i like the integral controls idea though.

I'm good with rails. You will lack the modularity that is all the rage right now if someone built it 'into' the gun. Going backwards IMO.

perhaps it could be built-in, but have removable/exchangable parts?  bulbs, higher-cap batteries, etc.  Maybe a user-ejectable grip-mounted beam like on the Crimson Trace handgun grips.  A small tool could eject the mechanism completely for replacement.  It would require more miniaturization of components, however.
