Okay,so i joined the m&p club about a month ago and bought a m&p 40 compact.
Well i've had it out a couple of times now and when cleaning up the brass yesterday
i noticed something a little odd on the primers.
Here's the spent casings from yesterday

Well that got me thinking,so i got out the spent casing from the factory
here it is.

This is my first m&p pistol but i've never seen this on a spent shell before.
I was wondering if this normal for the m&p.
They both have the same marks on them so i don't know.
Any help whould be appreciated,thanks.

Open up the fired casing that came with the gun and see how it compares.

what you see is normal. It is the hole the firing pin comes through to contact the primer. when fired some of the material from the primer flows into the hole leaving this mark. lock back the slide on your m&p and you will see that the mark on the primer matches up with the hole in the slide where the firing pin comes through.

So glocks get rectangles and M&P's get that oblong egg shaped thing?

Oops, missed the text between the pics.

Spent all weekend building holsters, maybe I need to shut it down for the day.

This is pretty common with many .40S&W pistols.  It is firing pin swipe.  The swipe is from the firearm unlocking from battery before the firing pin is fully retracted into the slide.
The firing pin is still in contact with the primer as the action starts to unlock.

Like I said, very common with the high slide velocities produced by the .40, especially in a short slide pistol like yours.
