| I have an Ohio DL and an Ohio CCL. I have a NH non-resident CCL that I got with my Ohio license to allow carry in a few more states. I have moved to Kansas and now need to get a Kansas DL. Kansas has this stupid rule that I can't get a Kansas CCL until after being a resident for 6 months. When I get a Kansas DL do I have to surrender my Ohio CCL? Does that mean I have to stop carrying until I get my Kansas licence? |
| Depends on both the laws of Ohio and Kansas. Unless you want internet mall ninja rumor and conjecture it would be best to call both state CCL offices for direct answers. I know in TX we have an 800 number that we can call for questions like this and I think most states would have a simular number. |

Kansas does not recognize nonresident permits.
The question is really; what are the residency requirements of OH? I would approach the OH CCL office with this question: How long can I be out of the state before my resident CCL is invalidated. In my mind living in KS for 6 months shouldn't necessarily negate your OH residency. The major problem I can see is how long do you have in KS before you have to apply for a KS drivers license? A KS DL would, in my mind atleast, be the end of your OH residency. |

Kansas is home now, so I don't know that I would keep my Ohio residence. What blows is that my NH license is still valid, but Kansas does not recognize non-resident permits like the poster said above. So, I am looking at waiting 6mo to apply and 2 months for them to process the application before I can carry again in my home state. When i travel, my NH is still good though. What an F*cked up rule. What is the purpose of making people wait 6 month to apply. Either you qualify or you don't. |

Don't have a direct answer for you, but I can say the AG's office was very good about giving a quick answer when emailed. Answer I got from the AG office when I emailed them, was the clock started when I got a KS DL. My reply email asking if that invalidated my Ohio or NH license was not answered. I don't know if reply emails get through, or they don't have to answer them. I plan on contacting NH Monday to be sure their license is still valid for when I am traveling outside KS. |
