i saw on the "worst guns you ever bought" topic kimber coming up often. do they or did they have quality control issues?

Kimber has had some QC issues both past and present, however as they sell more guns they're also going to get more complaints.

Just coming from what I've read, and not personally experienced, Kimber seemed to have problems when attempting to sell their external extractor design.  Many, if not all models, seem to have been reverted back to the internal extractor design.  I hear pretty good things about the TLE/RL II and Warriors.  They seem to be hit or miss in quality, but so does just about every other production 1911 company.

There is a lot of Kimber hate floating around the internet, but I bet you can find more Kimber Love than hate.

I own two.  A Stainless II and a Warrior.  Haven't go to shoot the Warrior yet, but am hitting the range tomorrow so I'll update you, but my Stainless II is SWEET.  smooth as glass.

it is still pretty new, but so far so good.

I will definitely add a few more Kimbers to my collection before it's all said and done, but have to get me a SA TRP next.

Sad to say new Kimber's seems to be like new Sig's...quality is lacking.  Not a "hater" like both companies...just have fixed quiet a few new Kimbers lately.  I own two myself and one is my everyday carry gun, both were bought in the late 90's though.

I have 10,000+ rounds through my series 1 kimber, another 2,500 through a series II pro carry and never had a problem with either.

My series one Ultra CDP has thousands of rounds without issue (my EDC), I put the first 200 rounds through my newly acquired (used) Eclipse Target II today without a single hiccup. I have associates with mostly the same experience.
As said before, many have been sold but folks generally don't come on the boards to proclaim that the product performs as advertised. What gets attention is when they don't.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

They say on the Kimber video that they do 200 QA inspection checks during mfgr.

I really like Kimber's, but I have seen them broke too.  Personally the negative Kimber hype will not keep me from buying another...especially a Warrior or a Series 1.

My only experience is with the Desert Warrior. It's been flawless for 2 years. One day I'll change out the Mr. Peanut grips.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow....I like the comparison....they do look like Mr. Peanut.

I just got a Warrior too.....I actually thought the Mr. Peanut grips are pretty cool.  But I decided to throw on some VZs anyway.  Now IMO it looks perfect.

My Eclipse has never missed a shot. Lately a lot of manufacturers are having QC problems. I've been reading a lot of Springfield complaints. I had a Micro that I immediatley had to have trigger work done to. Worst trigger I have ever felt. I could have sent it to SA but why should I have too? It was an $1150 pistol with an 8.5lb. trigger pull. It did feed correctly after about 50 rounds.
Most problems I've run into were cured by extractor tweaking and feed ramp/chamber smoothing.

I have a Custom II which has always been reliable. I got it at a good price for my first 1911.  Probably wouldn't buy another unless I got a deal I couldn't refuse.

ETA that's only because I feel like you can get an equally nice or better pistol in a SA for less money

I would have absolutely no qualms about buying a Kimber as long as it did not have the evil external extractor.  Kimber's foray into EE territory was an unmitigated QC disaster.

Any other QC issues they have had have been extremely minor.  They do not always tension their internal extractor properly, but neither does anyone else.  Also they received some bad slide stops from their sub a while back, it's a minor nuisance to fix (about 8 seconds with a file) but Kimber has been very good about sending out a new part if you are one of the folks affected.

Does Kimber pin or use super glue to hold in the ejector?
