ok so I bought a crimson trace laser for my glock
liked it at first then the grip really started to bug me, in fact drive me nuts. I feel like I have a horrible grip on it with that thing. then I was reading a thread on a camping forum labled "what is your scarriest camping experience?" which showed alot of situations where the camper had to sit hidden in the dark with a target in their sights unseen. then I was bothered after realizing that I cannot really sit in the shadows unseen with the laser on whenever I grip the gun. sure I could block it with my finger but it still gives off a little light AND I cannot sit with my finger ready on the switch of my TLR-1 if i'm doing that I came to the decision that I only want a laser if it's a lasermax guide rod laser, and even then it's only for a very limited number of possible situations. recently I was talking to my friend who also CCW's a G17 with his military carry permit come to find out he has a lasermax and prefers the crimson trace over it. long story short i'm getting in on a hell of a trade. crimson trace glock laser for a lasermax guiderod laser (which happens to retail for twice what I paid for the crimson trace laser. I need some input from lasermax owners: did the lasermax affect your reliability over the stock guide rod? also I have a crossbreed supertuck which is molded so close to the lines of the gun that it's got a dip and bump molded in where the takedown lever is. does the lasermax lever stick out any further? will this need to be remolded to prevent the holster from turning the laser on when it's holstered? I realize these lasers are not adjustable. How close do they point to your actual point of impact at 20 or so yards? overall how happy are you with this laser? |

I had one on my Glock. I had no problems or issues with it in terms of affecting the function of the gun. I would have liked the option of make the beam not blink, like the Crimson Trace. I may buy one for my Beretta. I think they're cool just for the fact that you don't really have to line up the sights to get a quick shot off at an unwelcomed shithead that might be standing in your bedroom at 2am. |

I have a Lasermax in my G26 which is my "glovebox" gun.
I Have only shot with the laser a few times now but it works great and should I ever need that gun it is ready to go day or night. I have night sights on all my other glocks but decided to switch it up on this one just for fun! If Wisconsin ever passes CCW and I need a small gun for warm weather days I will be glad I have it! In the main time fuck Doyle and his gun laws!

Quoted: nobody has the lasermax and crossbreed supertuck? I need to know if it's gonna turn on in the holster or not! I had a Lasermax on my G27. It turned on all the time while holstered in my Bladetech IWB and would randomly turn on and off while shooting. The last straw and the reason I finally got rid of it after several years was that my G27 started failing to feed the last round from my mag while the Lasermax was installed. Maybe you'll have better luck but I decided to go with good set of night sights. <o:p></o:p> -Deke |

I've had two, one was great! Shot to the point of impact. No problems.
The other, well was less than great. After a trip back to the factory, still would not hit with in four inches of the sight at 15 yards. The unit would turn on in my duty holster as well as others. The factory did send me another take down lever that sloved that problem. Try it before you buy it! |

I ccw a Lasermax in my G17, G19 and G26. I have fired thousands of rounds through all of these guns with very good results. The Lasermax isn't perfect, but its certainly a reliable and durable piece of kit.
I use CTC Lasergrips on everything else except Glocks. I don't like the way they changed my grip and I was at a class where two seperate units went down. According to the cadre, this is a common occurance with the Glock units. Supposidly, the new version will be better. I am looking to get the new "dust cover" CTC model for my G26, but i doubt it will replace my Lasermax. Only 1911 Lasermax's can be user zeroed. According to their literature, this is because 1911 owners have a maximum desire/appreciate for accuracy or some BS like that. Only my G17 unit was "off" enough for me to complain. I exchanged it for another one that was dead on. My G26 unit is the tiniest bit off to the right, but i can still make head shots at 25 yards no problemo.
The activation is one of my biggest issues with the Lasermax. Its not possible to "flash" on/off like you can with CTC lasergrips, which could be a tactical disadvantage. This can be mitigated with practice and training. There are a few generations of switches and even I don't know all the differences. I do know that my guns won't fit in my SERPA drop leg, but will fit in my SERPA paddle. Lasermax makes a special SERPA switch, but the CS guy told me its just a standard switch dremeled to fit, which can make it difficult to turn off or on. My solution was to use a Safariland light bearing drop leg, which made way more sense... I carry in a Bladetech holster and like the SERPA, its impossible for the unit to be turned on while in the holster or holstered while the unit is active. If you holster the gun with the laser on, the side of the holster will de activiate the holster. I could see how it could get activated inside a leather holster though... You should only use Lasermax battery packs or your own replacements. Lasermax told me that I could just stack three batteries and melt/seal them in plastic and it would provide the same performance as their battery packs for a reduced cost. After a magazine or so, soot will build up on the laser lense and cause it to dim. Wipe it away and you are good to go. Be careful not to get oil on the lense as it can give you a blob instead of a fine point and can be a hassle to clean off. I had one Lasermax unit fail on me. It was an 04 model that I had in a G23. After around 3 or 4k, the seal on the lense degreaded and the lense got foggy. The laser still worked, it just looked like a big blob. They rebuilt the entire unit for free and had it back to me in 2 weeks. Keep in mind, a guide rod serves to make reassembly easier. Even if your gun didn't have a guide rod, it would still likely function. The Lasermax unit is a huge improvement over the factory Glock polymer unit and spring. It might have a laser inside it, but its still an alloy/steel/metal improvement over plastic and the spring appears to be of higher quality. Lasermax isn't my first choice, but it is for Glocks. They have many LE and military contracts and are sufficiently durable and robust. I have had thousands of rounds to break mine in and they are outstanding. For the Glock, its the best way to have a laser IMO. |

I have a Lasermax in my back-up/off-duty Glock 26.
I love it. I wear the Glock 26 in an Uncle Mikes ankle holster without problems. Never turns on when in the holster. I also use a Uncle Mikes Kydex belt holster. It never turns on inside the holster. About 90% of the time when I draw the weapon the Lasermax turns on. That's convenient. My Lasermax use to sometimes turn off during shooting. I called Lasermax and they sent me a new spring. The old one was weak. They said, could of been a bad batch. It happens. I like the on/off switch on the Lasermax. Helps in disassembly. |
| I've had several Lasermax units, I thought they were sexy. I've now gone to Crimson Trace. The Lasermax units caused malfunctions in both a Glock 26 and a Glock 19. I don't recall the exact malfunction in the G26, but the G19 and probably the G26 had problems locking the slide back on the last round fired. Also had a few stovepipes. Ammo wasn't the highest quality but the pistol had no problems before the Lasermax. Now last round hold open isn't the most necessary function, but it is a function and the Lasermax took it, most of the time. For reliability reasons, I don't trust the Lasermax anymore. I prefer the Crimson Trace, at least on the 92FS, and will be trying them on the Glocks soon. The new Crimson Trace looks like a good unit, with the external off/on and the minimal change to grip. |
| I remembered what I didn't like about the Glock 26 Lasermax. The first day I tried carrying with the Lasermax installed, the laser turned itself on and drained the batteries. With the holster I was using, I thought this might be a possibility, but didn't expect it on the very first day. I immediately re-installed the factory guide rod. |
| These look pretty neat, but I haven't had a chance to play with one. http://www.laserlyte.com/New_Products/index.html |

You know how you replace the takedown lever and the flat metal spring type thing with the laser max one...
I recall bending that metal spring allowed you to increase or decrease the ease in which you could push the takedown leaver through to turn the laser on. |

have any of yall done the Laserlyte or would my $200 be better spent "upgrading me" ie taking a class? Not sure what your current level of training is, but I'd initially say that your money would be much better spent on a class before buying lasers. That training is vastly more important. |
