how many of you out there use a mag well on your carry pistol? i have a springfield milspec that will be my ccw piece, thinking of adding on a s&a magwell.

i origionally had a SW 1911SC as a primary (unless it was a glock ), but i always shot better and faster w/ the full size TLE; just turns out it has a S&A magwell

FWIW: if you want MAXIMUM concealablility, skip the magwell; but if you get a magwell, i'd advice getting one thats integrated w/ the MSH, not a slip on

I'm building a CCW piece for when I move from Illinois (also going to be one of my APG application guns).  I am putting on a Heinie Mag guide on it.  I have 2 personal pistols right now, one with the S&A and the other with the Heinie.  If I could go back, I would have the Heinie instead of the S&A on the one.  I won't have another 1911 without the Heinie.

2 points that make it superior in my opinion.

1.  The mag funnel is bigger.

2.  It doesn't add any length to the pistol - which comes in handy for CCW.

Just my .02

i have the Wilson magwell that fits over the grip bushing on my Pro Carry II.  Won't ever have another carry gun without one.  Reloads are a no brainer with the magwell.

I use a S&A well on every 1911 I buy including .22's, 45's and a .50. I've got big hands and without the magwell my hand hangs over the bottom of the gun. If the 1/8 of an inch extra on the bottom keeps you from concealing you might need an officers model or a round butt ed brown type gun. I have no problem with concealment.

I have an SA RTP with that came with an S&A mag well. I find it makes reloding faster.

I'm going through the same decision making process right now too....I still can't decide
Part of me says a fullsize 1911 is big and heavy enough already without adding more weight, but it would be nice to have faster mag changes too...

FYI - that's a Springfield magwell, not a S&A.  I don't mind a magwell on a carry gun, my Wilson CQB has one and my Baer TRS doesn't.  It doesn't bother me either way, I no problem concealing the gun with a magwell.

I don't think there's anything as slick as a well executed Heinie well.

2 main drawbacks i can see with that:

1. would need to be installed by a gunsmith.

2. doesnt allow you to grab the front lip of the mag for malfunction clearance drills.

This is an S&A on a Colt 1991A1 ORM.

1. That's not a drawback. Lots of things on a 1911 need to be installed by a smith.

2. There's a small flat on the front of that magwell. The lip of the mag sticks out past it.
