| I have a brand new m&p 9, and im having some minor yet annoying issues. 1. The slide doesnt lock back after firing last round, but does if manually operated with an empty magazine (stock s&w mags) Also the slide release is extremely difficult to press down. Impossible with 1 thumb difficult with 2. Any help is greatly appreciated |

The M&P is designed in a way that it isn't a 'slide release'; It is a 'slide stop'. It will not operate as a easy to manipulate 'slide release' without some modification which I wouldn't suggest doing. Don't get me wrong, you can release the slide by pressing it hard enough and it does get easier to do over time.
When the slide is locked back, grab the back of the slide and rack it (aka slingshot method). That is how it is designed to work. Your issue with the slide not locking back on the last round is a real issue. I would contact S&W. |

These guns have a habit of magnifying the effects of it. |

Make sure you are not riding the slide stop with your thumb as that could cause it to not engage the slide after the last round is fired; hence, the slide closes and you think you have one more round to fire. I have done this a couple of times.
When inserting a fresh mag, if you seat it with your hand applying forward pressure, the slide will automatically close and chamber the round; otherwise, I recommend the slingshot method like the above poster mentioned. |
