who sells or makes a complete upper for a 1911. i mean if one wanted to switch calibers and or slide lengths, there would have to be complete uppers ready to go right?

i'm looking for a commander sized 9mm..... anyone?

Umm no. 1911's are not like an AR15. Parts don't just drop in, everything must be gunsmithed to fit. You can convert you 1911 to shoot 9mm though. Is your 1911 using a standard or ramped barrel? You mainly need a 9mm slide and barrel and magazine. For 9mm ramped barrels are the way to go.

im building from an 80%. but want the process to be a little gentle in terms of assembly and price. thats why i wanted a complete upper and not something i'd have to build from parts and possibly screw up.

I won't comment on the building of a 1911 but the two major assemblies are usually called "the slide" and "the frame".
Yes, 1911s are not AR15s.
