I just got back from the range where I put about 100 rounds through my new gen 4 g19. Unfortunately the indoor range was closed and I had to shoot at 25 yards outside. I say unfortunately because at that distance I can only manage about 12" patterns unsupported-definitely me not the gun. This was actually better than I have done at 25 yards in the past, so I was happy with what I did. Much more practice is required on my part.
I was shooting Federal HST and 115 grain Federal bulk ammo from Walmart. In the beginning some of the 115 grain empties ejected off my arms, but that seemed to get better with more rounds through it. The HST ejected much better and none of it ejected back at me. I did find that the first round of HST would not chamber if I tried to close the slide with the slide stop. I had to power stroke the slide to make it chamber. All other rounds of HST in the mag would chamber, fire, and eject fine. The slide would close with the 115 grain fmj Federal rounds if I used the slide stop. The HST seemed to hang up on the feed ramp a little. When the slide gets racked the additional rearward travel compresses the spring more, and that additional spring force was necessary to Chamber the HST. I'm not too worried because I only shot 100 rounds through it and I figure it still needs to break in a bit. There was no stovepiping, and as long as I rack the slide on the first round of HST it always went bang. The fired cartridge cases that came with it were fired on 11/14/2013. |

That's interesting. It is usually the other way around, people tend to ride the slide without realizing it.
1) Did you top off your mags after loading to see if it would feed OK with a full mag? 2) Did it occur with multiple mags? 3) Federal bulk ammo is loooooooooooow powered stuff, Winchester white box looks like +P comparatively. (I'm not picky and I'll still shoot it, just throwing that out there) 25 yards isn't easy and I'm working on it myself. It is frustrating because at 15 yards I can put most of them inside a golf ball but at 25 yards A zone is all I can do. It is far more difficult. |

All of this is 100% true...except I can't get golfball groups at 15 My problem with 25 yard shooting is I can barely see the damned target and that's with corrected vision. Personally I never use the slide stop to chamber, I always power stroke as thought. |

It happened with all 3 mags, which are 10 round because of the libtard gulag I live in. It happened when the mags were loaded to 5 rounds and 10 rounds. I think the edge of the hollow point is hanging up on the feedramp somehow, and when I rack the slide it gives the slide a little more momentum to overcome the hangup. I typically rack the slide instead of using the slide stop, but I decided to experiment with the slidestop.
It only happened on the first round, every other round feed and extracted perfectly. I'll buy some gold dots and see what happens. The feed ramp doesn't seem rough to me, but maybe after some more fmj it will slightly burnish it and reduce the friction. I don't see this as a huge issue since I typically charge it by power stroking, and when I power stroke it the first round fed fine. |
