friend brought over a new g26 for inspection... we disassembled it (removed slide) and saw some ugly finish on the inside - almost looked like rust - appeared to be possibly the black 'finish' did not take.  Could it have been some sort of grease?  I did not want to mess with it too much since it looked to me like a factory defect.  He is taking it back to shop.  It seemed to run all the way on one side of the slide (in the notch).  Anyone ever see anything like this?

yes - not nearly so thick but it did look like that - so that sounds like a non issue then- just some factory lube?  I did not touch it but my friend did and I think he said it kind of was peeling off.  That made me think it was not lubricatant.

Sounds like the gunshop tried to clean the gun up before they put it out for sale.

It's factory lube, a non-issue!
