| I recently inherited this old colt 357. It was my great grandfathers duty gun. I cant find much on it i think its a trooper pre mkiii. it has a lot of holster wear but is acutally in really good shape locks up really tight i know the grips are not factory but i was wondering its value i was thinking id get it re blued |

Is it a Colt's 357 or a Trooper???...in any event, it may be one of the older models that had the guts of the Python, making it a very nice revolver indeed...that plus it was carried and used by a relative makes it something you can't part with...enjoy!...hopefully more will pipe in here with some further info...

It's a proto-python. Short early 50's production run. Colt came out with the cheaper to produce Trooper to take up the lower end of the market where your gun resided. They then polished the 357 up into the python as their high end gun. Not rare but not as common as pythons and certainly not as common as troopers. Worth $450-600 in that condition, but invaluable to you as an heirloom.
Good service pistol for it's time. A lot of fun to own now. Don't try to refinish it, or "improve" it. It looks damn good |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Really? Moparnguns.....you uploaded your pic to Tiny pic. All the links that come up on the left.......one has "/img" at the front and back. You can simply copy that link and paste into your Post and the picture will show up when you submit your post. The other way is to copy the http link at the top of your screen and then use the picture function below and paste the link into the box that comes up. 
And I've got that same gun in 6" my dad gave to me about a year ago. |
