I have a nib p345 on its way. I got in a trade. is there anything I need to know? Is there any ammo that it doesn't like? I know that I am going to need an IWB holster so suggestions on that would be helpful too.

It's a Ruger P-Series. Reliable, clunky, unrefined and robust. Full size, slide mounted safety/decock, single stack. My thoughts- Why? Well it goes bang I guess, and there's nothing 'wrong' with it, but if you were going with a full size gun, why not go hi-cap? And if yu want a single stack, why not a 1911? A Glock has a winning hand in both contests. If you like double/single action why not get an FN? I mean it's just like the rest of Ruger's pistols outside the MKII/III- Why?

"I mean it's just like the rest of Ruger's pistols outside the MKII/III- Why?"

Answer:

"Reliable, clunky, unrefined and robust."

That and they are about 1/2 the cost of many of the other pistols. Not everyone can afford to fork out the money. So what if they are clunky and unrefined, the first and last words in that quote from you are the most important.

Ruger makes some damn nice SA and DA revolvers as well.

Not everyone agrees that Glocks are the answer to every question in pistols.

For starters I am in new york so I can have hi-cap mags(unless preban). I have owned glocks in the past, nothing wrong with them, just never cared for the grip angle. I have had several 1911's which I really like but I wasn't offered one for my trade . This is a single stack pistol with a slimmer frame than the p90 model. If I had cash to buy a pistol I am sure I would have picked something else, but got this in a trade for a sp101 that I had. Just looking for opinions from guys that actually OWN a p345.

i have one nice fit in my hand,a little light so it wants to jump around a bit.
keep a firm grip and ftf's should stay at a minimum.
when i first got it ,i had a bunch of ftf's.
was my 1st handgun and wasnt use to shooting one.
since then it has had a steady diet of 230 gr. fmj and havent had one in 300 rounds.
dont know  how it would handle hollow points, will have to try them next time out.

I have one got it new. I have put about 500 rounds through it. Half ball half hollow points. It eats everything I put in it. I got it for a great price. For what its worth it goes bang and at 20 yards it keeps all rounds in the 9 area. I qualified with it at the PD for a off duty or extra duty gun. John

I just picked it up today. Nice pistol. First time i have handled one. I was a little surprised not to see a metal insert for the rails the slide ride on. Looks to be all polymer.

I have one as my carry weapon. I carry mine in a leather IWB I got from Backwoods Leather at a gun show. They didn't have one made for the p345, but it fits in the p94 model.

I run a P-90 for my CC weapon and its not CLUNKY. I have had zero issues with it and it eats anything. And as far as the plastic kids toy (GLOCK) Mine is more accurate. I got rid of a G36 Not as good. If you need HIGH CAPACITY then you shouldnt have a gun. If you cant hit your target on the first shot go home and hide under your bed.

Well it feels good in my hand. Its alot slimmer than the older model ruger's I have seen.  I was hoping to shoot it last weekend but the weather went to crap so it didn't happen.Hopefully this weekend coming up,i'll get a chance.

Hope you enjoy your new pistol.

I bought one when they first came out.  It has shot well for me.  Great combat accuracy IMHO.
I "cleaned" the rear sight to remove the magazine safety.  Trigger feels better compared to other ruger DA/SA autos.
I have about 800 rounds through it.  300 have been 230gr JHP SXT's, Speers GD's, and some 185gr +P MAgtechs;

Only things I don't like about it are
-no aftermarket night sights that I am aware of.
-loaded chamber indicator is more of flag, to pronounced for my liking.

I carry mine when dress requires in a IWB Crossbreed supertuck.  It conceals well I'm 6-1 and 165.  Also left handed so I wear it at the 8 o'clock position.

I have 2 P-345's. Bought 1 for my self and let my wife shoot it. That was a mistake had to buy another one for her. She had a M&P 40 but it was hard for her to use very stiff recoil spring & small slide release hurt her hands.

We have never had a failure with ether P-345's. We shoot mostly reloads with lead bullets round nose 230's & 200 gr. swc. also shoot 230 fmj & 180 gr. Hornaday XTP bullets. The Rugers just eat what ever you feed it.

Good reliable pistol, nothing like the old P-Series guns. DO NOT dry fire it without the mag in it. If your a dry fire person that is.

I think I may be getting one of these for CCW.  I was going to get a Kahr P45, but for the $ the Ruger looks like a steal.  The safety features all seem unobtrusive.

I still have yet to get mine to the range.I have been wearing around the house in an IWB holster.feels no different than a glock or 1911's that I have carried in the past.

Not true! Meprolight has TruDot Nightsights for the P345. I was going to order a set from TopGun Supply but they are on backorder. I'm waiting to hear from them when they get more. $69.95!!! Can't beat the price.

Just picked one up today, can't wait to hit the range this week.  Gun feels great in my hand and at the price I thought I could do no wrong.
