took my new p380, serial # RB687x, to the range for the first time today.
i cleaned and lubed it first, but only got to put a little over a hundred rounds through it before the ranged closed. ammo was remington PMC JHPs. i had about 2 or 3 fail to feeds, no extraction/ejection problems, and about 75 failures to go all the way into battery. i really doubt this has anything to do with it, but when i took it apart the firs time to clean it, i noticed the recoil springs "open ends" were toward the muzzle, which made it a pain to get the guide rod back in. i flipped to open ends so they are against the recoil spring back and the full circle end is at the muzzle. this made it much easier to get the rod back in, as well as kept the spring wire ends from trying to go through the guide rod hole in the slide. anyway ill try some different ammo tomorrow but i dont see these problems dissapearing, as it didnt seem to make much progress in the first 120 (plus i have racked the slide a few hundred times prior to shooting it). is this a known issue? id hate to waste money on ammo trying to brake it in if its going to have to go back to kahr anyway. thanks. |
| I always rack my polymer guns 500 times before shooting them. It's cheaper than shooting ammo through it and you'll notice plastic shavings coming off the slide. I would not worry about it until you have broken in the gun. After putting the proper break in rounds through my Kahr's, they have all run 100%. |

fired another 2 hundred today for a total of 300.
the recoil spring was back in the right way but that didnt have any affect on function. it just doesnt like to go all the way into battery. also, the slide locked back a few times with ammo still in the mag. this didnt happen at all yesterday. i guess ill try some hot rounds followed by some more fmj target loads but im not wasting much more money on ammo if i have to send it back just to have to buy more ammo to run through it again. |
| Kahr P380 instructions are less than stellar. They say specifically to not press the trigger to get the slide back onto the frame. Emailed Kahr and told them I could not get the gun together per the instructions. Their response? Press the trigger. We are trying to fix the instructions. WTF? The instructions also say that you have the springs reversed, unless I am mistaken. |

Try hotter ammo. My Kahr has problems with plinking ammo, but runs 100% on defensive ammo.
Needless to say, it was expensive getting enough rounds down range to be truely comfortable with my P380 as a CCW. I noticed that the PM9, K9, P9 are all more reliable with +p as well. Corbon Powerball runs 100% in mine. I have a few issues with WWB practice ammo. Deos anyone make hotter .380 practice ammo? Blazer? .380 is so hard to find, I take what I can get right now. |

I have a PM9 which I am quite fond of, and have been considering a P380 as a future purchase.
Unfortunately, I had the opportunity to shoot a P380 yesterday. Worse yet is was along side shooting both a Tuarus TCP and S&W BG380. All were customer guns, and I was sighting in their lasers. The P380 could not run a full magazine without a failure to feed, even with FMJ. I ended up loading only 4 rounds, and still had a few failures to feed with the customer's supplied Gold Dots. The P380 was also the least precise, scientifically speaking. Groups three to four times the size of the TCP which was the best and surprisingly produced really nice groups. The BG380 was in between the two, but it has an absolutely miserable trigger. I mean astoundingly bad, it was a real chore to shoot. All three shot better than the hex slide P3AT I owned, or the LCPs I have tried. I am really disappointed in the Kahr P380. |

S&B, Prvi, RWS, Dynamit Nobel, etc, etc. They relied on .380ACP as a mainstay round for a long time and got used to loading it hotter as their guns were a bit more robust and developed in that caliber. Powerball is hot shit! |

I have similar issues with my p380. I racked the slide maybe 300 times before shooting. The only malfunction in the first 100 rounds were the failure of the slide to fully lock forward; it happened at least 30% of the time and got worse as the gun got dirtier. I noticed that it ran a little better if I had a really stiff death grip, but it still malfunctioned and I was by no means limp wristing. I simply pushed on the back of the slide with my thumb to lock it up.
I was shooting some sort of Remington 100 rd box and federal premium hydrashoks; both malfunctioned. I chalk it up to the need to break in, which I knew I was getting into when I bought it. There were a LOT of plastic shavings produced, far more than racking the slide created. No need to make a judgment on reliability until I break it in fully. I know kahrs are reliable––my pm9 runs like a dream. |

I picked up a P380 for my daughter a few months ago. Broke it in for her.
Had one stove pipe and one failure to load in two hundred rounds. Took it home and cleaned it, went out again with her and had no problems once we cured the limp wrist problem. I've carry a P9 for many years and have never had a single problem. I also have aP45 and have had no problems with it, although it does shoot a little high. All in all I've been very satisfied with Kahr jb |

Mine did the FRTB too. Both of my first 2 range trips were like this. I realized that the slide wasn't closing when the gun was dirty. I polished the chamber with a dry felt Dremel bit. I also used an emery board to smooth the mag lips. Trip # 3 was much better. No problems at all. These are good places to get answers. |
