I have an old Taurus 357 that needs some work. I need a few things done - it’s spitting lead, I want the barrel cut down to 4” and refinished. It’s not worth much but I want to keep it as it’s the first pistol I bought years ago. Any ideas on who could do that kind of work?

I would give either Cylinder & Slide and/or Novak Sights a call/e-mail. If they won't do the work, perhaps they can recommend someone in your area?

Good luck!

God get rid of it and buy what you want a old Tarus is junk not worth more than 100 bucks - and what you are trying to get done will cost 400 to 500 bucks.

Spitting lead suggests the timing is out.  Fixing that falls into the artsy craftsy type of repair.  On a taurus, I would guess very few smiths are going to tackle that.  You may want to call Taurus customer service and see what they can do.  Shortening the barrel is going to be more work than you realize.  If I remember correctly, the front site is integral to the barrel.  Remounting that will entail a fair amount of metal work.  Plus refinishing.  This will easily cost more than the final product is worth.

I understand sentimental value as well as the next, but it might just be time to put this one out to pasture.
