| hi guys, recently came into a little money. been buying up some bargain guns that i`ve seen in shops and from gunsamerica.com. just got in a pt 145(2001 yr.) are there any places out there that sell an accurized bbl for it? also, the taurus web site does not seem to have a listing of replacement parts to purchase on it. at least i want to buy a brand new stock bbl for it. any help with this please? this is the first taurus i`ve bought since i got a revolver from them back in 1996. |

No one makes any replacement parts for the PT145 except Taurus(Williams does make some fiber optic replacement sights) If there is anything wrong with the pistol it is covered by the Taurus lifetime warranter even if your not the original owner.
I love my 3rd gen PT145. It is my everyday carry. One thing you need to take into account. The PT145 is a defensive pistol and is accurate out to 15 yards. If your looking for a target pistol the PT145 is not the right gun for you. If your looking for 2" groups at 25 yards the PT145 is not for you. If you are looking for consistent head and torso shots out to 15 yards, the Taurus is the pistol your looking for. I feel very confidant carrying 10+1 230 gr Honady XTP hollow points with 10 more in reserve. It is a great concealed carry pistol and shoots just fine. |
| yeah, thats what i got it for. defensive carry. but i do like to see just how much i can get out of any pistol. to that end, i like to see how accurate it can be or could be with the right bbl. and/or ammo. thats why i was wondering if anyone made an accurized bbl. for it. this gun is used. the serial# was run thru taurus and it said the year made was 2001-2002 so i`m assuming the bbl. is fairly worn out, maybe not though. i guess i`ll just order another stock bbl. from taurus. thanks for your reply! |

I have yet to see or hear of a worn out barrel on a PT145. They are good for thousands of rounds. If your barrel is worn out just box it up and send it to Taurus. You'll get a free barrel if that barrel is worn out.
As for accuracy Taurus has the sights set up for 230gr bullets. If you shoot a lighter weight bullet your sights will be off accordingly FYI. You might want to take a look at getting a newer version(gten 3). Buds has them on sale for a smoking price. And take a look at the PT24/7 compact 45. It is exactly like the PT145 size wise and has a decocking feature that works really well(also a smoking price). |
| you say the accuracy of the bbl. was set to 230gr bullet. is that from taurus or another comparision? was reading an old issue of gun test mag. and they said it shot a lot better with 185gr. also azlester, since you seem to know a good bit on this pistol, are there any laser lights made for this pt 145? keep in mind this is an older ver. with NO dovetail rear site. just a screw-on. if there are no sights avail. for this older ver., will a slide from a new pt 145 model( millenium pro) fit this older ver? if i had to i would just order a new slide. still would be cheaper than buying a new gun. just got back inside from shooting this pistol. bought a plate rack this winter( 6in steel round plates). shooting from a rest at 20yds. was having no problem knocking over the plates with regularity with the 230gr. guess i don`t need a new bbl! this really suprised me! |

The sights from the PT145 pro are dovetailed in. They will not fit your pistol. Williams makes sights for both the screw on and the dovetailed versions I believe.
The Taurus owners manual is where I got the 230 gr bullet information. The sights are set up for the 230 gr bullet on the 45 cal PT series of pistols. The 9mm are set up for 124 gr bullets. I don't remember what the 40 and 380 are set for. If I remember right the gen 3 slides will not work on the gen 1 frames. They made a major change on the triggers. gen 1 are DAO, the newer versions are single/double actions. If your hitting targets at 20 yards then you got your money's worth on that pistol!I know if I want to hit someting out past 15 yds I want my 1911. I love my PT145 and it has always done me well. It is small and accurate for carry and carries a big punch all for a very reasonable price. |
| thanks for your information! was a big help. next thing, i need a iwb. did a search and came up with a holster that seemed to come up recommended by many on different forums. that would be a Don Hume H715M. most gave it 4-5 stars. or an excellent rating. do you have any other recommendations? keep in mind i never wear a belt. and i want something thats not universal (i want a form fit leather). and one that is stiff enough to easily holster but not so much that it digs in to the point of pain. |

I have the Don Hume holster you referenced, as well as a Crossbreed Supertuck. I much prefer the Supertuck, and wear it 95%+ of the time. thanks. after some more research, i have narrowed it down to those two. leaning toward crossbreed but their site says 4-6 wks at least for delivery. that tells me there very good but i don`t know if i want to wait that long. warm weather is just about here and i`ll be in t-shirts soon. |
