After the last time I shot my 17C some of what appears to be carbon residue of some sort appeared on the inside of the slide right where the ports are. It is not in the barrel and or on the little bridge section over the barrel. The problem is, it will not come off, no matter how much breakfree bore cleaner or gun scrubber I use on it. It just discolors to a bluish white color. This has never happend before. The ammo was just WWB and Golddots. Has this ever happend to anyone, and if so, were you able to get it off?

Yep, I agree, anything that smells that BAD has got to be good!

get some Carbon cutter. It is the absolute best for this type of cleaning. I use it on my 22C, just drop the slide in the jar and in 15 minutes the carbon is gone.

Another good carbon cleaner is from www.mil-comm.com. Then make the famous TW25B gun grease and another product called MC-25 that takes carbon off with ease!

Both cleaners are non-toxic and have little to no smell for indoors cleaning.

Cool, I'll try those since the hoppes no.9 would not cut it as I found out last night.

I clean my glock in hot water with dish soap and a toothbrush.  I haven't found anything that won't come off.

The Slip Carbon Cutter is on its way. If I soak the end of the slide in the Carbon Cutter, will it disintegrate my front sight? Hopefully it will not, but if it does, not much of a problem, because I have been looking for an excuse to get night sights any way.

No, it's a citrus/water based cleaner but does an awesome job.  Soak it for an hour or so then take a gun cleaning brush (toothbrush type) to it.  It makes cleaning AR bolts and carriers easy as hell.

The Carbon Cutter did it after about an hour and a half of soaking and some scraping. This was almost as hard to remove as the build up on the face of my AK and SKS's gas pistons.

Get some Slip 2000 gun oil and the carbon won't stick nearly as much! Slip 2000 is the best gun care products on the market ever with Mil-Comm a close 2nd!

it's hard to damage the tenifer coating so just put a screwdriver to it.

but yeah the slip would be easier

Actually it took a combination of both to get that carbon off. Next time my 17C goes to the range it is getting cleaned right away.
