Anyone have any shooting experience with these?  I held one at a gun store and it felt pretty nice.  The trigger was nice also, better than the glock I tried.  I think they are only available in .40 for civilians right now (from what I can gather, anyone know when they will be available in 9mm?), but I am considering it if they come out in 9mm.  Anyone shot the m&p .40 and have anything to say?

Doh, missed the other two threads on this topic, but anyways..

Never owned a smith and wesson, but I've dealt with their customer service via my p22 and I am very happy with that aspect.  Given the choice, why would you take this or a glock?  I'm basically in a debate right now between a p99, a glock 19, and a m&p 9mm.  It would be used for carry once I got my license.

You might want to look here also:   M&P review

When it comes between the pistols you listed, I would probably opt for the G19. I carry a 99 at work and hate the thing.  As for the M&P, I havent shot one yet, but have handled them in a store (they felt pretty nice). Once I get some range time with the M&P I may change mymind.

Also, I think the 9mm M&Ps started shipping this month from Smith.

Does the m&p have any relation to the taurus 24/7?  I read that smith and wesson and taurus are owned mostly buy the same company.  Just curious.  The 24/7 actually looks a little more similar to the sw99 than the m&p though.

I was minutes away from buying a S&W MP in .40, but elected not to. I really like this gun, as it has a good trigger, light rail and excellent capacity. I did read the review posted by a fellow ARFCOM'er and I was a little disapointed. He mentioned a pin walking out every 400 rounds and noted some FTF and FTE's. Every gun can have failures, but since this is the first year of production and I can remember the Sigma fiasco all to well, I decided to wait. Personally, I like the S&W much more than the Glock 22 and I look forward to buying one in the future. While they have since fixed the Sigma, I don't want to do S&W's field testing on my dime. My only complaint is the funky slide release, other than that I really like this gun. I got a contract with Nike the first year they made hockey stuff. It tought me to see how new products work in the real world before jumping in head first. Thankfully, no one was killed/injured when my shafts broke and the eyelets pulled out of my skate boots. They seem like good guns, but I will wait and triple check they are the next Sigma fiasco.

I just my MP40 back from S&W today it had a few problems, it appears this pistol has a few teething problems which Smith will get sorted out. I will say this is one of the nicest pistols I have ever used.

Says on the taurus website that Bangor Punta, a conglomerate, purchased smith & wesson.  They also bought 54% of Taurus.  So... If this is true than they are, or were, mostly owned by the same people.

For a few years, back in the 1970s, they were under the same holding company. That has not been the case for over 30 years...

Nice gun, when it worked. One mag....4 light strikes. Stick em in a SIG and bang. I'm thinking some QC issues.

Nice grip angle etc. WAAAAY better made  than the SIGMA. But just as buggy.
