are there any advantages to having the stainless 92 rather than a regular blued 92?

It won't rust.

Let me add, as easily.
Pure stainless is too soft for most firearm uses, they had to add other metals that strengthen the stainless but increase the chances of corrosion. But when it does, it's usually more repairable...polishing, glass beading, sandblasting or even a brushed finish, because the stainless is all the way through, whereas blueing is only on the surface.
I treat stainless guns as blued anyway, eliminating any rust freckling in advance.

Blued guns are usually harder to spot in a tactical situation. If it's for home defense, stainless is nice because the bad guy will DEFINATELY see the gun. Other than that, what 'anothergene' said.

As MJF said, visibility is the main difference. Blued is generally harder to see, while stainless is generally easier. A bright, easy to see gun might intimidate a bad guy into surrendering before you have to fire. Of course, it might not do so, but it doesn't hurt to have another advantage. OTOH, a blued gun would conceal better for CCW. If you have a blued Beretta in a black holster with a black shirt inside a dark jacket, it'll be very hard to notice even if your jacket accidentally opens a little too much. And if you are in a real shootout, a blued gun might make it a little easier to sneak up on the enemy.

I still think a sandblasted stainless gun "reflects" less that a polished blue one.
Sure, those high polished mirror finished stainless guns are flashy, but in pitch darkness, aren't they all but invisable?
And wouldn't a dull gray weapon blend in better with surroundings than a shiny blue/black one during the daytime? Reflectivity and color choice, I guess would depend on what the intended use is. Where, when and and how it's going to be used factored in. The newer SS 92's are bead blasted, duller than the Italian polished blue models, but either way, I still think stainless is the better investment, overall.
O.K., lets get the light meters out.

Okay mall ninja's... j/k guys.
Difference between the Inox models are very slim. Wear and tear will not show up as much on the inox. The brut. finish WILL be worn off of the barrel, mag well, and frame rails.
Inox is generally easier to clean.
There is a somewhat rare model called the 92fs Cajun which is blackened stainless. That way you get the pluses of Inox in your tactical black package.
Remember that the frame of a 9x series gun is anodized aluminum. The slide and barrel are either SS or steel depending on the model.
Seriously, I'd base my purchase on what appealed to me better. I couldn't decide, so I got an Elite II which has a brut. (black) frame and a stainless slide and barrel.
In real life carry, not commando raids of Payless, stainless will be more visible under a coat, such as in a shoulder holster. Black gun, black holster will blend into the shadows. You see more holster then gun in most cases.
New model fs model inox guns have black safety/decocker, mag release, slide release... and so on.
Good luck,
-Steve

brewsky101,

FYI: Beretta pistols are not blued, they are epoxy powder coated.

Damn.... took the words out of my mouth.... I perfer a darker gun over a "nickle plated sissy pistol" Mostly for tactical reasions but, thats just me. There are some advantages. Just as there are disatvantages. Mostly the visabilty of the gun. There is no mistake when you pull the stainless pistol out on a dark night. Its as if the gun speaks for you... "yes this is a gun pointed at your head...no I dont want to talk about it, are you sure you want to do the man dance?"

Get both, and keep them both handy. If the situation calls for stealth use the blue.

If it needs to be seen, use the stainless.

If in either scenario, the perp is not intimdated into cooperation and submision, draw both and go John-Woo on their a$$

Feel free to use this, when explaing why bought two guns.
