Got a cheap soldering iron and some extra A2 AR15 grips?  Practice on the AR grips and do it yourself.

I got a cheap iron that can swap tips to make different patterns, did my own and couldn't be happier.  If your end product is too rough, sand it lightly.

I used this guy on my 17.

Did a great job, very clean lines. He has a couple different patterns he uses. Think it was $185 and about a week turnaround.  He has done a few more frames for buddies.

Whenever I'm ready to have it done and he opens his books for more work, Stippgrips is who I want to go to. Their presidential velvet looks really nice, but I also like their hatch pattern as well. Attached File

I really don't care for strippling Glocks, although admittedly my gen 2 19 is rather slick, but that is very well done.  I almost want to say l like it.   And if l had a chance to hold it l might even say l love it.

Feels better than it looks. This is his rougher texture. Although he did knock the sides down slightly for me for carry.

There are several places that do just as good of work. Unfortunately their turnaround time is measured in months not days.

Find him on IG under Figgysmallz.

He also does framework for DWS.

I had Tactical Textures out in ND do a nice job on my brother's Gen3 G21. Removed finger grooves, rolled out most of the hump, undercut the trigger guard and did a great stipple.

What kind of price does he charge. Some places are asking crazy money.

I emailed Kent around Christmas. He told me then that he wasn't sure if he would start back up or not.

Haven't heard anything since then.

I had my done last year. I'm not sure if his prices have changed. I believe it was around $175 with the double undercut added.

I prefer these to stippling. A lot cheaper to try out, and easy to remove if you don't like them. You can find them on Ebay cheaper than their website.

I find stippling hideous and permanent. It sucks on carry guns and kills the value for me. Like you say, to each their own. I won't buy the skull pattern, it looks stupid, but the boa and crosshatch patterns are very effective.

Pics added.

This was my first time. The prep work took the longest. I made sure to remove all factory texture before I started. Used a dremel for the tiger grooves and the back strap. Hand sanded the rest.

Used two different textures. A little bit less aggressive on the skin side. Used three layers of tape to make the borders. I wish I could redo those and make them a little cleaner. With practice I think they would look pretty good.

For curves, tape off and then use razor blade to cut tape away.

As long as this took me I totally see why people pay to have them done. This took me HOURS. Spread over multiple nights. And it could have been better.
