They were made on Colt tooling supposedly to Colt specs, so yeah, I would say that frame built exactly like a Colt, but not marked as Colt would be a good base for a build.

While I personally hate to see a piece of history chopped up, yes they are a good base.

if it were 100% matching I would not consider modifing it but it has a gi barrel and an adjustable trigger that was installed before I received it

Gotcha, my Sistema is all matching including the magazine. (mag looks like it was used as a chew toy but it matches)

Sistemas are quality pistols. I wish that I had bought half a dozen when they were cheap and available a few years ago. I am grateful that I did get the one that I have.
