i went to the range tonight and the same thing happened tonight that does every other time i go.

i shoot my HK USPC .45 and maybe once every mag or two i will take a casing to the head/glasses/and today my lip.

im wondering if im not holding tight enough, maybe my wrists arent strong enough, i have no idea.

any suggestions on what it could be??

thanks

you could need a tunning on your extractor.  Or you could just buy a Glock.

thats like taking 5 steps back.

it seems that there is significant muzzle flip and the casing comes straight back.  it only happens sometimes though.

Ok, lesson one of firearms trouble shooting...

Try different ammo.  Does the problem repeat?  It sounds like you are getting inconsistent powder charges in your ammo.

Or... if it's intermittent (every couple of mags) could it be fatigue related?  You're arms are getting a bit tired and you limp wrist one?  It happens...

let some other experianced shooter have a go with it. If it does the same to him it's the gun, if not.........then it's you.

AFPLAYBOY-
Be careful should you choose to try to 'tune' the extractor. In the early USP's the extractors are cast, NOT forged, and they will not take a whole lot of tuning or bending without breaking. Take the advice to let another shooter try the pistol. Take care.

If you're geting too much muzzle flip, you really should get a G-lock.  Lower bore axis=less leverage on your girly wrists.

and the polymer seems to be more flexible, sucking up more recoil.

Practice more....when doing double taps with my USP Compact I used to catch an occasional flyer to the coconut.

I believe my grip shifted just enough to shift the gun and it would alter the flight path of the brass.

Firm grip = no brass on my head...

Cold Defenders used to do that right out of the box too.  I had about 4 customers that came back to the funstore I work at with semi-circular red marks on their forehead saying, "it shot great! but....".

It was always the extractor.

ok you're getting a lot of flip?  Probably holding the gun to low and not locking your elbows then. Hold off on the extractor and give it to a shooter with more trigger time.

Maybe you're to young for that man's round.
