After emptying a mag the slide locks back, while inserting a mag I would often give the good hard slap to ensure it's seated.
Every time I do this the slide would chamber a round.  Thumb is not on the slide release while I do this so I know it's not me causing this. If inserted with moderate pressure it doesn't do this.
Glock 19 gen 3 with approx. 300 or so rounds through it.  No mods other than sights.
I've only shot XDs up until owning this 19.  Never happens on my XDs(9mm and .45) and I tend to always do a hard insert with them.

That happens with the M&Ps at work if you do a mag change a little to aggressive.

My glock 21 does this as well

This will happen with many auto pistols depending on the angle you are holding the pistol when slamming mag in. No issue

Google is your friend.  Yes, this happens all the time although rarely to me since the only time I really slam a mag in is with the slide forward.

Normal.  Some consider it a feature.

thanks '13.  Shut this forum down folks, google has all the answers. Tell me why even have a forum than?   At least buy a team membership if your not going to provide any helpful information parasite.

Thanks for confirmation, guess I have to remember to be gentler during reloads.  Been using my XD 45 for local competitions and decided to swap over to a 9mm glock so looks like I'll have to be more conscious of it.  Hard to
do sometime with a ticking clock lol.

What you describe is often referred to as "auto load."  It is actually caused by slapping the butt of the frame when seating the mag.  If you experiment with your technique, you will find you can alleviate it.

It is momentum... really more of the angle you hold the gun and the force you put on the mag than anything else.

Nice. My Glocks have done this a few times. I have had it happen more with Sigs and Berettas. Like previous posters have said, nothing to worry about.

I love that my M&P does this. My H&K P30 did it, too.

Normal, and I try doing it all the time, but my Glocks only do it when they want to.

I believe you have to insert the mag at a certain angle.

From a training standpoint, it would be better to train for it to happen vs. altering your style or being "gentle" on the gun.  If you practice to react to the gun in either condition you will be better prepared under stress if it happens in real life.  Under stress you are more likely to bang the crap out of it seating that reload mag anyway.

A few of mine do it, G34, G35, G22, G17...

I like it...  Gets me back in the game faster...

However, my muscle mem takes over and my thumb just automatically goes for the slide release if I do not feel it lock back into battery...

Also, I have big hands so reaching the slide release feels natural... I've seem some folks have issues with that.

My G17 does it most of the time but not 100%.  My G21 and G26 do not do it.  I do not see it as a problem.
