| Just looking for some opinions on the Walther p99 my wonderful girl friend wants to buy me a late chrismas present and i was kinda looking at one of these? |

Find one with the german proof marks.
Magazines are expensize. Light gun so in 40 it has some flip with 180 gr 1000fps ammo. for a guy with big hands the full size makes a great compact carry gun. I find the grip verry comfortable using the middle size backstrap. plastic adjustable sights. reloads are easy if you use your trigger finger. I have the older models with the small magrelease and trigger guard "hump". |

I have a 1st gen P99 .40 that is all German and is a traditional DA/SA. GREAT gun. Very ergonomic, comfortable, and has been 110% reliable with all the factory ammo I have used in it. I personally don't think it's that "snappy" as far as recoil. Feels like every other plastic 40 I have shot. Very satisfied.
My favorite feature is the ambi euro style lever mag release. I can eject the mag with no shift in grip using my trigger finger. Most people have to ship their grip to release a traditional style mag button. |

Had one German made QA 40- really confortable, very well made. Magazines are not that expensive. You can get ones- 12rds, made by Mecgar from CDNN for $20 or so. It handled 40 recoil better than my G35, probably due to ergonomics. As equal as Glock if not a little better, but part/ accessories are not as readily available.
However, I sold it to get CZ75B in 40 which was much cheaper and felt even better. Plus, I like the steel frame and safety, - all the CZ quality in general. |
| I have an OD frame P99 QA that they made right after the "facelift." It has been boringly reliable and accurate (and fun) for a plastic gun. I like the QA trigger but some don't so try to find both the AS and the QA and dry fire them. It was my first real, modern pistol and still my go to gun in 9mm. The ergonomics are pretty awesome but the mags are expensive as has been said. I think I saw some S&W SW99 mags for sale somewhere, I think those are the same kind. I'm really more into 1911's now, but for me the P99 wins against Glocks in everything but the mags/accessories department. Takedown is simple, too. |
