| I just bought a used Springfield armory loaded 1911A1. I completely dissassembled it for an inspection and after taking it apart I found that I was missing my mainspring housing pin. I went ahead and ordered it from brownells. After installing my pin. And preforming a functions check I found that I have slack in my hammer (it moves) with the slide forward (in battery). Also when preforming my functions check when checking the thumb safty the hammer lets go just a little doesnt' fall but then you couldn't release the thumb saftey until you pull the hammer back again. Any help would be greatly appriaciated. jm |

iirc springfields with the ils system don't use that pin. It is supposed to be missing. Somebody correct me if I am wrong. This is correct. The ILS Mainspring cap is different than the standard mainspring cap, so they don't include the pin. You need to buy a new mainspring cap as well. Buy a 23lb mainspring while you're at it. The ILS spring is 28lbs and makes the trigger needlessly heavy. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

If you want cheap, you can buy the same ones that come on S&W's 1911's cheap from Midway. They're made out of aluminum, but the mainspring housing isn't under extreme stress.
It's just as easy to buy a new mainspring cap. The pin you just bought will be usefull then, and everything will function correctly. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I just went ahead and replaced it like you said. It works fine now. I will probably just keep my mainspring housing. Thank you guys for your help

how in the hell do you get this back to together without a pin lol. easy hammer down and push the mainsping housing up until the holes in the frame line up. I use my thumb, but a hard surface will work just as well and something like a marlin spike to work as a slave pin. |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile I replaced the nylon MSH on my Delta Elite with one of the S&W parts––-nice checkering, fits perfectly, and comes with everything you'll need––-cost a whopping $12.99. It looks nice, and it works well. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=127124 |

My MilSpec also didn't have the pin in the MSH itself but it did come with an L shaped tool that fits in there for reassembly. I have put it back together without the aid of the tool but it sucks. Check your pistol box and see if it came with one. You mean the small allen head/paper clip :) |
