Went to shoot today and after about 50 or so rounds the slide locked back and was HELLA locked. The last shot did fire but the spent cartridge was hung between the barrell amd the slide. With just a little push it fell right out of the magwell. I couldnt get it to release so......Went back home and did the "dead blow hammer thing" to get the slide forward..... Now..........the damn thing will only slide back about an inch or so ! Dead ass stopped when you try to pull it. The striker/firing pin will engage and you can pull the trigger and it will function but thats about it. I dont see anything obstructing anywhere. Does this sound like a guide rod issue to anyone???? Please give me your input...

Yes, it's probably a guide rod problem but that's about the best I can do.

If you don't get the help you need here, I'd suggest one of two things:

- Head over to XDtalk.com and ask your question in the "General" section there.
- Call Springfield customer service.

Good luck.  I'm sure you're frustrated.

I would call Springfield right away and see what they have to say.

Why are their so many problems with 40's?
All my 40 caliber guns have been junk fuck that round.
Sorry to get off topic on your post just wanted to vent some frustration.

Fortunately this has been the ONLY problem I have had with any .40 and especially a Springfield.  But............vent on man !
I contacted Springfield and they said they aren't really sure what could have caused this.  I'm going to just send it back and hopefully they can fix it.  Id hate to get another one, I'm kinda fond of THAT one !  Guess I'll see in a few weeks.

I've been on this board and many others for awhile now and while I realize all guns can have problems but I agree with your statement.

I see more issues with 40's then I do any other caliber.

I own 2 XD 40s (Service and a SC) that have a combined round count in excess of 20k. Never an issue. Maybe a couple FTFs over the years with shit ammo and a dirty gun combined with a limp wristed shooter (never happened to me personally, only when others were shooting my pistols).

I've stated this a few times before. I believe some .40s have problems because they are built on 9mm frames with 9mm components. The XD40 is known for this. I used to see it a lot but not so much anymore since companies probably wised up like SA did with the XDM40 and afterwards made the XDM9.
