when  firing pistol remove magizine and fire the last round it will not eject proprely
I have done this over and over / the case of the fired round gets stuck as the slide tries to close
Is this user error [that would be me ] or is there a problem with the pistol
Should the slide lock back with the last shot with out the magizine in the pistol ??

ps I have never had any problems with the mag in the pistol 800 rds so far

thanks for any suggestions

reminded me of the slam-fire effect with the m1a

maybe the magazine slows the slide down just enough

It's you.
Seriously though, the XD slide won't lock open after last round unless the mag is in the well.
Why would you pull the mag before the last shot anyway?

The same thing happens with GLOCKs and even Sigs.  They use spring forces from the magazine to aid in ejection.  It'll either be popped off by the next round in the mag or the follower.  With no magazine, the spent casing will not eject properly as there is nothing to push them up and out of the action.

It is not a design flaw.  It's simply an easier way to create a forceful, reliable ejection without adding unnecessary parts and weight.  All modern autoloaders use this system.

Don't shoot the last round without the magazine, or just pop in a fresh magazine and continue shooting.  Problem solved!

In a 1911 pistol (and many others also) the slide lock is activated by the magazine follower.
No magazine, no automatic slide lock on empty.
