Couple of questions on these, I'm sure they have been covered somewhere before, but I'm crap at searching! Firstly, what is a good one to get? What sort of .22LR will behave in a 1:8 twist? What are the best mags to run using one of these? Will I need a variation on my FAC to get one? Would I be better off just getting a dedicated upper and if so, does anyone do a full size A4 style upper? Thanks in advance! |
I've tried the M261 and the Bremmer, as well as the Ceiner. Both worked extremely well
try it and see, but on paper only the Aguila SSS. I prefer MiniMag, cleaner bullets and pokey enough.
Again, I've used the standard supplied ones and had no trouble. BDM seem good if you require a slightly bigger capacity.
Yes, as a calibre conversion kit/unit
Yes you'd be better off getting a dedicated rifle even if only to stop the crap getting in the TMH of your big-gun. Failing that get a dedicated upper. The kits do work very well indeed and show great accuracy but it's always nice to remove that jump. Some match triggers might not work with the 22 kits. You may need to up the hammer spring tension or replace with the standard issue spring. |
Ah the old SGC quality control yet again. ![]() Dunno why he wont buy a proper broatch cutter for the mag wells Perhaps because he's tooling up to make the unicorn

I fell foul recently when I found that my older SGC lower won't take P-Mags...

That's useful info on both counts, I have the SGC lower (second hand rifle not ordered in that particular configuration). I was looking at getting some of the P Mags, but did wonder if the lower would have issues with them. That's that answered and me not having to waste money finding out! |
If it's the older lower (you know, the one that's cast in a bucket of sand and has a cast-in trigger guard) you might be OK Edit: Just re-read Icarus' post and see he has the older lower |

The only readly available conversion kits are Ceiner. Some are reliable and some can be complete dogs, but they are fixable and when done right are very reliable. The M-261's are only available here in the now discontinued Bremmer rifle's. These though only have relatively flimsy barrels but are reliable as long as with all of them they are kept clean. Ceiner's do need to be tuned to some extent but there's several good upgraded parts available for them such as EDM cut extractors and improved firing pins. The Black Dog mags were a godsend as most of the issues originated with the original crap mags. Most of the .22 uppers use a "sporting" chamber. This is generally on the loose side for reliability but this detracts from the accuracy capabilities resulting in average best groups of around 1" @50yds compared to a barrel with a match chamber that will give 1/4" accuracy at the same difference (as long as you do your part!) They must be kept clean though and at times will not extract a live round from the chamber. With that said though, most people just want a blaster and are happy with the more generous chamber and accept the lower accuracy expectations. Mark |
Yes it's a bit weird. My SGC lower takes standard USGI mags no problem, also BDM mags are a good fit and drop free without any encouragement (I have seen other SGC's of the same type stick with BDM's). But I currently have a pile of new P-Mags with nowhere to go...........but a new lower for them is in the pipeline..... |
Oh i'll give you a fiver each for the if you want them of your hands. You don't want them cluttering up the place now do you.
|
Nice try but no. As stated, I am having a lower built which will be dedicated to my BA upper so leaving my V22/SGC lower to do Girly Gallery Things.......... |
If you have time to correct my spelling, you have time to build my lower............ |
|
I've built your lower. All you have to do is cough up the spondoolies |
|
That was when you were too busy. Now that you've done it I'll have it complete so if it goes wrong I can blame you. IM inbound |
Bank Manager If you do have the SGC old cast lower v22 they dont seem to like the BDM mags. good luck Bullet tooth |
They vary, the SGC lowers that is. Mine is fine with them but in a friend's lower they hang up and need a little tug to remove them.......
