I stand corrected...

I thought pretty much and 6.8SPC upper would fit on any regular lower, but it does in fact need to be a 6.8 lower...

Man, I coulda swore I thought I read, you could change to the 6.8, buy pulling out the pins, swapping uppers replacing the pins and mag....

Pretty sure you can.

I am positive you can. I interchange my doublestar lower with my 5.56 and my 6.8 until I get my lower for the 6.8.

I thought you could. There are some companies marking lowers 6.8 but I think that is just for the OCD folks out there.

They will absolutely fit and function.  However, it has been rumored (I have no personal knowledge of this one way or the other) that in some states the lower must be marked to reflect what caliber the upper is i.e. 6.8spc or any other caliber.  Hence the reason many stripped lowers are marked Multi Cal. Supposedly this becomes a non issue with those lowers.  Once again, this is just rumor until you make verification.

I intend to find out before my next build because I'm thinking of building a 6.5 Grendel and I may want to buy one of those Multi Cal lowers for that purpose.  As of yet though, I have not done any research with regard to this matter.

Let us know if you find out anything.

it can be on any standard AR15 lower regardless of caliber designation marked on the lower
why do you think it needs to be a "6.8 lower"?

yes changing an AR from 223 to 6.8 or to 7.62x39 is as simple as changing uppers and mags.

you are WAY overthinking this

I know you can, because I have put one on three different lowers.

Thanks everyone for all the responses and setting me straight...

I thought I was right the 1st time (and from all your posts it seems like I was)...  I swear I read an article in Shotgun news or another gun mag, where they did the swap...

I don't know that I way over thought it; I mean I thought I knew, but wasn't sure ( I'm not one of those know it alls that thinks my opinions gold especially on a subject that I don't have 1st hand exp like dealing with 6.8s) and when my friend said his dealer told him he needed a 6.8 lowwer to build this and then I went to RRA page and saw they had 6.8 lowwers as well as the normal  ones, I was OK, maybe I'm wrong, maybe you do...

That was really all the thought that went into it...

Thanks again, I'll let him know...

Dealer is just trying to sell an extra lower, and RRA is doing the same (or targeting the OCD crowd that can't get past their lower being marked wrong.)

I suspected at least one of ya were going to say that...  :)

He knows the guy pretty goood (Not that that means said dealer couldn't rip him off)

He would be buying a lower either way as he does not have one and they are the same price 223 or 6.8 and he said he was out of stock/backordered on the 6.8, thus not even making a sale or postponing it....

But I do thank yas for the info, I passed it on to my friend and told him to do with it what he will...

The dealer may not be trying to sell a new lower.... He may just not have any clue regarding what he is talking about.

Sadly, I find this to be the case quite often.

But Cabela's, now they have some genius working that counter.

My 6.8 lower is a standard RRA lower.  The only difference is that I painted in the logo so I could easily tell it apart from others.
