I recently ordered an 80% lower with jig and was wondering if anyone in the Wisconsin area ever has build parties. I've seen someone advertise one in California but wasn't sure if anyone had or is doing them in Wisconsin. I assume the answer is no but figured I would ask.
I think what I'm going to need to do is keep an eye out on craigslist for a cheap mill. |

Looks like drilling some holes and milling out the cavity for the trigger. I have a cheap mill, but don't think I'd be confident in my equipment and skills to not mess up an $80 chunk of aluminum.
What's then the legality of shipping a machined lower to an anodizer? My experience with anodizers is they charge you a lot charge no matter the size or quantity (usually in the $100 - $150 range). |

I believe you are GTG. Same as shipping for engraving. Contact US Anodizing. They are the go to company for anodizing receivers. |

Honestly, as a machinist, it's probably not worth the trouble to finish one of these if it requires milling and you don't have a mill. A drill press is NOT a mill. It isn't meant to take the side loads of a milling operation.
If you are looking for unpapered lowers, you may be better off just buying a whole rifle,or wait until the panic buyers start selling their stockpile. Even a used mill is $$$$ plus tooling, etc. I do have some cast lowers, which need a lot of work, but I haven't done anything to them. I have a mostly done lower for grease gun magazines. |

I all honesty I completely agree with you. When I was talking about using a drill I've seen people drill multiple holes and then dremeling it out. This is not the route I'd like to take. I completely agree with all the time and energy but it seems like something I would enjoy doing. It would definitely be better and easier to buy a used lower but something about this has always intrigued me. |

Or you and friends and family buy lowers and then trade them.
If you got the mill and jigs and did it in bulk it might pay off. 80% kits |
