| Does anyone know where to get an air conditioning capacitor on a Saturday?? |
|
you can try industrial electonics in milwaukee , sometimes they are open on saturdays
industrial electronics hes a good guy give him a call you might get lucky |
| Do you have an ace hardware or home depot near by? I'd be surprised if they didn't have one. Otherwise, Google Dreisilker. I have one here in McHenry, IL. Not open now, but, they do have an emergency line (24 hour). Any place that would sell to HVAC contractors in your area would have these. |

Thanks for the replys guys. I had to leave before I got any responses.
I called a few places with no luck. I ended up calling Grainger and They have the one I need for $12, so I purchased it and I will pick it up Monday morning. A few days without is not going to kil me. |

Yeah, Grainger, McMaster-Carr, and MSC if nothing else....at least there are shipping/distribution centers not too far away. At least here in IL (ChicagoLand) Good luck! I had to replace blower motor and capacitor this past summer! Ugh! |

I am out there in the rain with a multimeter checking fuses and stuff. I hope the fan isn't smoked. That will certainly cos more than $12.
We went to Milwaukee today but had to close up. I put about 3 fans around the house to try and keep the cats cool. We got home and it was 90 degrees in here. Everthing is open and tha fans are in the windows. I just goes to show how spoiled you can get. No AC and we are complaining. I spent the first half of my life without ac, now it seems that Ican't live without it. |

what really sucks is that we had an outfit come and service the a/c and furnace prior to each season, well, they never greased the motor bearings!!!
The blower motor had locked up and was tripping the breaker, thankfully, no tracing of wires for me, just had to replace the motor and starting capacitor. That was $130 out the door (with a contractor discount ). I guess our unit is old enough that it did not have "permanently" lubed bearings.
Well, the new GE motor had the sealed bearings and needs no maintenance. Supposedly. So we should be good from here on out. |

Most condenser fan motors don't have greaseable bearings, so don't feel that you got hosed too bad. As a side note, Flame don't be such a sissy, I have never lived in a house with AC.

Yeah, I just thought that they would have checked it. Not a big deal. All I know is that confirming with a buddy (HVAC tech) on this type
of repair, I probably saved $350-500 to have someone do it. Only $130 for parts and I used paid sick time at work to fix it.
Shh, no one tell my boss. Oh wait, actually I did tell him....never mind.

I will have to check it out. I put my own AC in my house. At my old job I got all the stuff for the ac. Line set, condenser, A-coil. That and the electrical, cost all of $650. The other guy I called wanted $2200. I aved myself a lot f money. |
