So I get back from setting my junk up at the gunshow and its "hot" in the house. I call the wonderful place that did the gold plated repairs to let them know. Guess what? Its 1745 on a Friday and still 105 degrees. I had to leave a message with the message service. So a tech actually calls me about an hour later, asks me what the problem is and says he's on his way. Opens up my outside unit and theres not much freon and a leak somewhere. He cant find the leak, so he fills my system, and says that should hold me until they can get back out on monday or tuesday to fix it right No additional charge. Geez this sucks.

If there is a leak, there is a possibility that compressor oil has been blown out. If you see any oil mist on any part around the compressor, the lines, the schrader valves (where the gauges are hooked up), etc, there is your leak. There was oil EVERYWHERE. The fan had even been blowing it around. He used a sniffer, and a dish soap and water spray and still couldnt find the leak. Never could get the head pressure up very high either. |

So he filled you with freon for a quick fix vs. using nitrogen to find the leak?
Sounds like some ![]() He mentioned that, but said that he'd have to remove my freon, fill with the nitrogen, remove the nitrogen, pull a vacuum on the system for 30 minutes then put my freon back in. Too long on a friday night with 2 more calls to do.

The leak is probably in your condenser coil.
