Outside unit is 6 years old.

Unit is made by Amana.

It has a comfort air trouble shooting light unit in it. Red light is on solid and gives a series of 6 flashing yellow going to try to attach pics.

Have you looked at the capacitors outside, the ones associated with the outside fan and compressor?  Have you put a meter on them?  The flash code says you have a failed capacitor, maybe you do.  Its common especially with the junk capacitors of today.  You said the compressor "was" running when you forced the contactor closed, not sure what you are saying here.

I am not an AC guy but have fixed mine numerous times.  Lots of information and parts available on the web.  If you do decide to check your capacitors be sure you read up on how to be safe doing so, especially when removing the covers from your unit and know where the electrical disconnect is for your unit.
