I'm tooling up to build a few. Hey if I can build weapons for the Corps I ought to be able to  to builk an AK too.

I built 5, but I sold my jigs and tooling except my 12 ton press. Depending on how home made tool savvy you are, I suggest buying the jigs and then re-selling when you are done. Just my .02

well, i was thinking about buying the tools (jigs and such) and building a few kits. but i cant weld so i would need some help with that aspect of it. not that i "cant" i just havent learned yet, and wouldnt want to try to learn it the hard way (ruining recievers or rails or both). i only have one kit for now, but if there are enough people around to get advice and welding help from then i might start grabbing a few more kits and look into gettting the proper tools.

I am now almost completely tooled up.
I have:
12 ton press
5" vise
8" bench grinder
8"(?) small bench drillpress

Basically I'm about 80% tooled up and about 60% through proofing my methods on two Romanians.

Carp- Theres a guy out of Indy (Broadripple area) that goes by the screenname Bowman. He builds AKs and FALs as a hobby, and does an excellent job. I told you on the phone I'd look for his number, but I can't seem to find it. You might want to contact him via PM.

I live in an apartment, so I don't have a press. I've built a few 74s using my dad's press back home, and loaned the jig out to a few friends here in Indy. I made the jig at work; Perk of the job (Tool/Diemaker).  If someone's organizing a build party, let me know. I still have a 74 kit to build, and I'd gladly bring the jig.

Im in Bloomington/bedford area. Would we be able to bend receivers too or should I look to be buying a prebent receiver and such? Getting excited, might buy a few more rommy kits

Thanks for the reply.

I have a complete receiver, so I really just need to rivet and press for the kit I am assembling.  I haven't done one yet, so I'd like to link up with someone who has already purchased the tools.  I'd be interested in bending some flats if anyone has the knowledge.
