I heard on the news this morning that AMC theaters was considering changing their policy on patrons wearing costumes.
The reporter also posed the question, how people could be protected at 'soft targets' such at Malls, theaters and churches? In my opinion removing the 30.06 signs would need to go first. Though, I will admit to ignoring those when going there. What do you think AMC has to say about not respecting a CHL holders rights now? I not familiar with Colorados concealed carry laws. |

The last movie I saw at a theater, it was posted with a 30.06 sign... BUT... both the English and Espanol were printed on one 8.5x11" piece of paper and it was nestled way down near the floor surrounded by a bunch of other crap where you could easily miss it. In any rate, since it was not a legally enforceable 30.06, I carried anyway. Had it been of the proper size I probably would have turned around and left... |

You do not have a "right" to do whatever you want on someone elses property. It is not a matter of respecting your rights. That said, I avoid businesses that give enforceable notice. |

Agreed txinvestigator. Concerning private property and current laws. As a disclaimer I'm not a lawyer or specifically knowledgeable of case law. It is sad, AMC security nor the police were able to protect the patrons of this crazy tragedy. What if... could AMC be negligent in prohibiting patrons from lawfully carrying a defensive weapon? Someone could have stopped the crazy mad man. If there were patrons openly carring a weapon would that been enough to deter the mad man that did this? The 'right' to defend you and your family from a deadly threat encounter. Not specifically the right to CHL on thier private property. Maybe those 'rights' I would want AMC to respect. Of course, I can choose to go see a Batman movie elsewhere. |

Pretty soon there will be Federal Movie Marshals and TSA at every theatre. I was going to say don't give them any ideas, but I can picture TSA already working up plans for that as a way to expand their powers and more importantly their budget. I just threw up in my mouth.... |

I've never seen a valid 30.06 sign at a movie theater, so who cares about their company policy. Neither have I... the ones here in Austin that have signs at all are as I noted, much too small to be legally enforceable. One bad news sign that I noticed though... IKEA in Round Rock that used to have a too-small 30.06 sign now has a more than large enough sign. My wife said "Well, I guess we aren't shopping there anymore". |

We all accept the fact that these mass shooting all take place in 'Gun Free Zones', no? Personally....I just don't go into them. IMHO, people who institute 'Gun Free Zones' are nearly as culpable as the shooters for these deaths. I, too, have to wonder why there was no alarm on the fire exit door. Unless the theater workers had bypassed it so they could go out back to smoke, it seems like opening a fire door would set off an alarm requiring investigation. Most fire doors I see these days have an alarm built into the crash bar. |

Those doors are of course supposed to only open from the inside, but I would guess that sometimes the latches are taped, etc., for reasons such as you suggest above. |

My second wife is not a big movie buff so it is much less common. The last movie I went to in a theatre was for a company "team building event" at my former employer. The movie was kinda sucky... and maybe that was a sign. Within a couple months of then myself and a fiarly large percentage of the other people there were laid off... |

It is my understanding after reading over in the CO HTF that CO doesn't have a standard for signs, so any "no guns" sign is legally enforceable. |

Read their post regarding security in their theaters, then read the very first comment!
Wanna take a stab at who that might be? |

If the owners or management of a business go to the trouble to put up a sign that states law abiding people who have passed a background check are not welcomed, I tend to avoid spending my money there when possible.

Agreed, I try to avoid anywhere that has any kind of no guns signage, legally enforceable or not... but an improper 30.06 won't keep me from entering when I must for some reason. |

Wanna take a stab at who that might be? Good lord, I'm disgusted by about 90% of the female comments on that page.......... Most were, "Thank you for MAKING US FEEL SAFE!"
Is that what society wants? To simply "feel" safe, not "be" safe?
I refuse to "feel" safe, and elect to stay safe, by carrying 96% of the time. |

well, heard on KTRH this morning Cinemark and other theaters are considering policies like wanding incoming movie goers, checking bags, etc. I almost threw up in my car. This could be just hearsay but it was in an article in the examiner (I believe) a day ago. Basically, much like you get now at a large sporting event, MLB/NBA, etc.
Every year I've gone to fewer and fewer movies, thankfully there's hardly any movies worth $15 (ticket and soda) anymore. It will be at Redbox in a few months, it's worth the wait. |

Until I can hold them liable in tort for failing to protect me, my right of self defense trumps your pirate property right. Why hasn't someone sued a place yet for that reason? Because, as he knows, it is not winnable. Maybe, maybe not. But it is certainly "settle-able"! |

First thing cinemark should have done after the shooting is offer a discount to CHL holders. Like free movie pass with every CHL! We visit the Cinemark in Webster now and then, never noticed a 30.06 sign there. If they post one now or start some goofy security measures, they will just lose our business completely. I can wait for DVD for whatever crap Hollywood has defecated out lately. |

A few of the Cinemarks I've been to have parking in the back, and have seen folks come out of those unalarmed doors and head that way. Not sure the layout of the Colorado establishment
We went to the movies Saturday (AMC), and there was police in attendance (my wife is LEO as well). We also eyeballed the doors and the movies we went to there are alarmed. Might be because it was 2nd story, and those only open to fire escapes to the alleys and parking. I didn't notice a 30.06 sign there, least not the legal version you see like on ToysRUS, which we don't shop at due to that .... |

Yeah, as if the outrageous ticket prices to medicre movies and the price scalping that goes on at the concessions counter isnt enough reason to stay away. "Sir, I need you to show me your ticket and lift your sack" The only policy that needs to be changed is their policy in firearms. |

I've never seen a 30.06 on any of their stores in the Austin area. It seems like there are a lot of businesses that post in the DFW area that don't down here. Which seems weird given that the Austin area is chock full o' hipsters and libtards and other nuts. |

The one I saw it at was Fort Worth, last year. I haven't been to one since (generally better prices anyway at other retailers or Amazon)
There was alot of chatter about it, and I confirmed it with a relative that worked at regional offices for a time. I don't know how that would affect areas with open carry. Anyway, I'll start keeping more of an eye out at other places we go alot to for the signs, including theaters, since we generally split time between a Cinemark and an AMC |
