Just remember Online purchasing will KILL you on shipping.  Let me know how much you want (sizes) as Im getting ready to place an order with a buddy that orders in in 5'X20' sheets (3/8) - it will stop 50bmg ball at 30 yards so it should be ok for targets -.  My cost varies between $35-40 a square foot if that helps any.

Thats pretty close to what i was quoted i think 42. is what i was told.....

I'm going to have to find the websight again a guy gave me..... i don't think it would come out to 10-15 more just to get popers delivered

Did you use a plasma cutter to cut yours or can you use a torch????

I use a plasma cutter.  You can use a torch, but its slower and you get more thermal spread from the edges inward = loss of hardness.  Not that big a deal, but expect cratering farther from the edges if you use a torch.  The best way is with an H2o Jet.  There may be some places online that will cut (to shape) for a small fee.

I've got a buddy here in Calera that owns a machine shop. He orders steel about once a week, I'll ask him to get a price on it. What size do you want and how thick?

I'm guessing he has to order it in sheets??  I'd like a price on a 4x8 sheet.
I wouldn't be oposed to paying him to cut it into Popers if he's interested.

Thanks

Think very carefully about ordering a sheet - 4X8 will require lots of buddies to move and you'll get a LOT of targets out it.  What Im trying to say is that unless your planning on going into business, a sheet of AR-500 will leave you with 3/4th of it sitting in your garage, a few targets, and a doctor bill for your hernia repair.

Out of an 8"X48" piece you can get 7-8 6" circles with 2 inch legs to attach to.  A 16"X18" or even slightly smaller is perfect for a chest/torso type target.

Just to give you an idea, I have 2 sets of 6 plates w/stands, 3 torso/holding head targets, 3 hostage taker target (swivelling heads), one sniper target, and lots of spinners and hanging targets.  Oh yeah and then my oldest boy has 10-15 animal targets and a spinner rack.  Basically I can fill the bed of my F-250 when I include the stands/racks/etc.  All total there's not a 4'X8' sheet of ar-500 in them.

Just offering some friendly advice from a guy that makes and sells targets on the side.

Hey man, Im not trying to talk you out of making your own (Im plenty busy with trying to move and work).  EMAIL me the size you want and if I have a piece big enough, I'll gladly cut it.  Hell, when I place this next order I can see what sizes they'll have from cutoffs/cutouts and I'll sell it to you for what I have in it.  I do this to support my gun addiction, I enjoy welding, and for tax purposes.  I make a living looking at naked women.....

Personally I hate poppers since theyre heavy and I always have felt like Im shooting dwarves or dogs.  I like my steel to either simulate 2 legged foe or challenge my skills.  Never been a fan of practicing the knee cap shot.

In any case shoot me an email with a contact number and I'll give you a call and maybe I can give you some ideas (I learned alot letting the arfcom crew abuse some designs) or at least figure out a way to get you some steel.

I hope Gunslingerdoc can fix you up, My buddys supplier doesn't carry AR500. Now, if you ever need some stainless steel I can hook you up!

ACMAN you should have seen what doc had at the JTAC shoot.  He had made several different kind of targets.  My favorite was the hostage...BTW doc,  are you going to make me one of these?

And what is this crap about moving?  You're not going to Mississippi are you?

hell yeah, the hostage target, I couldn't figure out which one was the bad guy, one had a gun, but the other was a liberal, so just to be safe I shot both.

That hostage target was super neat! All of the targets that gsdoc built and set up for the shoot were top notch!

i liked the pic i saw of the hostage target.... ..

I have enough 4" 6" 8" plates to last me a while.....

Thanks for the compliments guys - the jtac shoot gave me more than one change to incorporate (like making sure whoever the sorry shootin ***********, that kept shooting the non target parts wouldnt be able to hit the plate frames on the redesign).

The springs are still and item that tends to wear out over a few hundred rounds, but Ive resisted changing the design to a more expensive and hard to find torsion spring simply because its nice be able to replace wear items easily and cheaply (if I can find them locally in Big Mac it should be easy for everyone else - plus theyre cheap).

ACP, I torqued my back yesterday so Im way behind on getting shit moved to MS, and my oral OB/G board prep.  EMAIL ME YOUR PHONE NUMBER so I can call you.  Im pretty sure I can get you set up - it may just be a bit.

PAT, I dont know if Im gunna make another back before I move or not - depends on time constraints - if its any consilation the nwer versions are WAY better......

I should be gitting some steel this weekend  while Im packing my she-it up for the movers and watching my wife go nuts......  Mon or tues I'll be taking a LOAD of ammo and guns and other unmentionables to MS but I should be back by the end of the week and absent wife/kids/most of MY she-it.  Let me know asap if you want me to cut the steel since I'll either need to keep my air compressor here or borrow one.  you of course will need to come pick it up (and keep me well hydrated with beer of crown) whilst I cut.....
