It's not that bad, I've done 3 or 4 myself now.

Jojo's gun works.

Actually, if you don't know what you're doing, you might be better off having somebody else do it, because, in at least one step (installing the trigger guard) you risk cracking the lower.

Honestly, it's not hard at all. You have to take a few precautions to not lose parts that like to go SPROING across the room, and the trigger guard is common sense, support below what you're pushing against... but even for a first timer it can be about an hour's project following the guide posted here. Not to mention, once you do it you also know how to undo it and replace/change parts. You'll also know when something's not right later on.

The only hitch is if you get an out of spec part and are sitting there beating your head against the wall until you realize it's the part, not you.

Otherwise, +1 for JoJo's or NGX. If you're more toward Torrington check out Tactical Arms as well. The usual counter guy there is good with AR's.

I have benn doing them for over 20 years, not hard to do when you own the correct tools & don't subscribe to the WECSOG!

If you are in fairfield county, I'll do it for a cup of coffee or a ice tea!

+1 for trying it yourself.  I just did my first one a couple months ago (sadly it has gotten no further than the parts kit on the lower :( ).

Follow the guides on the site, and take it SLOW  and patiently to avoid scratching anything (this is probably inevitable on a first one though.  I had the biggest problem seating the springs, but it really wasn't that bad, just took a little while.
