| Wondering if anyone can throw together a lower easily? How long does it take? I know there are a ton of youtube videos out there and may have to tackle it myself. They make it look easy in the videos but I guess that is with everything that you know what your doing. Anyone live in Houston especially northwest side, I will bring over a pizza and a case of beer. I am interested in learning how so didnt want to ship it off. I have a new frontier lower going to be here this week and a lower parts kit comming. It will be attached to a complete upper. Bought everything individually off of equipment exchange. Just let me know what kind of cold beer you drink. |

Use the tape as pictured and take your time. The vise grip plier method works very well especially for installation of the trigger guard. I use a pin punch kit I picked up from Home Depot (sizes included 1/16", 3/32" and 1/8"). Just be careful using the punch tools as they can scratch your lower, but not to worry, the Casey touchup pen works very well. Ask me how I know!
I didn't need the pen when I first started building my lowers. The need for it came later as I became over confident. |

Did you buy a complete lower parts kit?
I bought my punch kit from harbor freight. I don't remember what thread I used but I know it wasn't a video. It just showed and named the parts. It was a stag LPK. It was my first build and went easy. I didn't use tape but I play with my 1911s a lot. Just be careful with the ears(protrusions from the lower); if they break your lower is gone. Email if you have any questions. |

The pivot pin with spring and detent (step #3 in the link provided above) was hard for me....there's a special tool which I think looks like a punch with a hole through it....first time I assembled a lower I used a razor blade to hold the detent pin down. second time I fashioned my own tool by shaving a wooden pencil down until it was the same diameter as the pivot pin, drilled a small hole through the pencil and used it as the tool (depicted in a youtube video). My advice to you when you get to that part is: wear safety glasses and keep your mouth closed. Go into a small room (my downstairs bathroom worked well for me) close off all open holes, sinks, toilets, doors etc. and go to it! I'm in Austin or I'd take you up on the beer and pizza offer |

Bourbon works better than beer. 100 proof or better..LOL Where are you located? I can probably help you out. It only takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on how easily you get the pivot pin and the trigger/hammer pins installed in a judicice manner. I have all the stuff/tools to do it and have probably done about 300 - 500 lowers. I think I can help. Shoot me an email at [email protected] and we can figure something out. I can negotiate the beer/bourbon deal with yout |
