Today in Manassas, Virginia, the IBS held their first AR Benchrest match. Just four AR shooters shot the match. Three were 223s and one was a 308. There may be another match next Sunday. No one shot well but it sure was fun.
I'd like to invite a few of you to come shoot with us. This type of event is not for the guys that only want to launch lead to make dust but for the guys who want to try to hit what they are aiming at. http://internationalbenchrest.com/downloads/AR%20IBS%20Final%20Rules.pdf http://internationalbenchrest.com/downloads/AR%20IBS%20Safety%20Briefing%20Checklist.pdf Adrian [email protected] |

State Championships are 100 yards and 200 yards, usually on two different days. Varmint type barrels are common, but not necessary. High power scopes (not high dollar) are most popular. 50 to 60 rounds of ammo. Nothing bigger than 308. 223 was most popular last match. Bi-pod, sand bags, and or gun rest. (one piece rest, like lead sled, is not allowed.) Stool or chair, not all ranges have enough stools to go around. Chamber flag. Something to prevent brass from flying off your bench. Brass catcher, net, cloth draped over the gun (I use an old shop towel). Eye and ear protection. Drinks / Snack / Food. Positive attitude. Most matches are $15. When signing up, tell them it is your first match and you will probably shoot for free. Arrive about an hour before the official start time of the match to get signed in. The matches in VA start at 10:00. I'll try to remember and bring the camera this Sunday then post pics of the event. We shoot at Fairfax Rod & Gun Club in Manassas, VA. Black Creek in Richmond, VA. There are a number of clubs in PA, one in Bridgeville, Delaware. Send me a personal message if you're thinking about going to a match. If I'm there I will personally show you the ropes. 7) No muzzle brakes, compensators, flash hiders or any other device that may influence expelled gas, except in 600 and 1000
yard matches. Does that mean that I wouldn't be able to use my AR w/ a A2 birdcage on it? You would need to unscrew the flash hider, then you would be good to go. You wouldn't be the only one with bare threads on the end of the barrel. |

Let me know if you plan on shooting the match tomorrow (3/7/10) and I'll reserve you a bench. Send me a personal E-mail.
