I should know this, but Im running a blank at the moment. I have a RRA 16 M4 upper on my AR now. I want to switch to a 10.5" upper and permatach a 5.5" fake suppresor. am I leagle or would that be a no go? would it be 16" overall?, we all talked about this before, but the thing im worried about is if they measure a 10.5" bbl to the threads or include them? if they dont theres a possability when i mount the can I'd end up 1/2 to an inch short of 16"? any ideas? |

im aware of the stated rules. that was not really my question, Im sorry. what im trying to figure out is if a 10.5" bbl is measured including the threaded part, and the fake can is 5.5"OAL and it threads over the bbl, then would i loose 1/2" making the OAL only 15.5" mingya I just read that and it dont even make sence to me. I need sleep |
yes. when you couple (using threads) a 10.5" barrel with a 5.5" brake, the result will not be 16". here is the acid test... cut a 1/8" diameter wood dowel to 16 and 1/8" (16.125") long. drop dowel into the barrel, letting it rest against the bolt face. does the dowel protrude from the barrel? no: good. yes: no good. (note: remove dowel before shooting rifle ar-jedi |

The barrel is measured from the bolt face in battery to the the end of the muzzle brake/FH. ETA: If I remember correctly Bushmaster sells an internally threaded 5.5" looking FH that slips over a portion of the barrel and adds a little to the total length Making the barrel look shorter than it actually is. |
That's for a 16 inch barrel. |
